Ireland vs All Blacks (2018)
-
With the Irish having beaten us now, does this reduce the pressure on them to beat us again, or increase it, especially with home fans wanting to experience beating the ABs?
-
A couple of days out from the biggest test since the Lions and all we have is a bunch of blokes reminiscing about players from 30 odd years ago.
What is going on?Hopefully the coaches spring some selection surprises like dropping BB and BBBR, recalling Luatua, Piutau and Ngatai, Starting Dmac at 10 and Jordie at 15 and bringing in Akira and Michael Collins in from NZ. That might get the conversation back on track.
Really hard to pick this game with the year we have had. It could be a blow out or could be one of those frustrating, error ridden, tight games.

I, for one, am fucking nervous. This has banana skin written all over it. A depleted Irish side at home, some AB players out of form and who have never played particularly well against Ireland (A Smith, I'm looking at you) and a defence that is sieve-like in containment. Added to that, the game vs England was a real grind and this Irish pack is not exactly shrinking violets in physical confrontation - yeah I'm not exactly seeing the ABs blowing them away by any stretch.

@synicbast conveniently, Ireland beat England 24-15 at Twickenham - so surely we should expect to lose 24-16 if the game was at Twickenham and worse since it's in Ireland.

Joe Stanley was the big hard midfielder of that era and was under 90kg if I recall correctly.
Just makes me realise how much the AB selectors missed a trick by not picking Marty 'Chuck' Berry. He woulda absolutely dominated.
According to his stats, he was 83kg. That's probably lighter than Andrew Mehrtens.
That’s not saying much.Have you seen Mehrtens lately?
He was at the cafe when I had breakfast with Joe Moody , Jerome Kaino , Damien McKenzie and Liam Squire . Mehrts defence was always a bit suspect but he can tackle any buffet by the looks of him.@jegga said in Ireland Vs All Blacks:

Mehrts was slight as for much of his career. He didn't smash the pies until later. Who can forget the tragicomic image of him walking off injured looking 20kg overweight and with those ridiculous lambchop sideburns.

Ireland are 6N champions, ranked second in the world, playing at home against a team at the end of a gruelling season.
How are they not favourites?
-
TAB has ABs $1.44, Ireland $2.75.
They're only giving Ireland 5.5 points headstart at evens.
TAB is not confident!

They are naturally conservative due to the volume of local punters betting on the abs.
Ireland are obviously clear favourites. -
@bovidae how did I not type "Crowley". It was in my head - old age.
Yeah Timu had gone well against Italy but Grizz / Hart decided the better option was a jet lagged no pace Crowley

Increase, as they're confident now, did it once can do it again. Lions did it, England did it ( if you conveniently ignore the score), boks did it. Ireland supporters will see ABs as there for the plucking, and they've got the team to do it.
