that was more of a cool down match than a warm up for the Black Caps, even would have fancied my chances scoring a few off them. Well done to the Windies though, they could be a bit of a dark horse in this tournament, would have to check cricinfo but I suspect they have a pretty good record in England, if records mean anything. What would be the Black caps plan - bat first at all costs or prefer to chase?

So we have an answer to how Matt Henry will go in English conditions...

He'll be pleased that's not an official ODI - otherwise he'd be holding third spot in the "most expensive 10 over spell ever".

Worst is 0/113 by an Australian called Mick Lewis, whom I can't recall and not surprisingly, since he didn't play again after that.

@Chris-B one of my good friends is Mick. Great bloke. I always point out ( on his behalf because he doesn't seem to give a shit) that Ponting didn't bowl out his premier bowler that day, Lee, against a rampant herschelle 🙂

While I'm sticking up for me mate, who doesn't need it and would never ask for it, here he is securing a win against us. We needed a paltry, gettable 6 of the last over to win 😁

@Siam He might have taken a record for the longest six balls with that over, as well - if he'd needed them.

McCullum and Vettori batting needing six off the last over - a few years later they'd have done it at a walk.

And Michael Clarke largely derailed us with a run out. Having watched that has set him back another five years before I'm willing to countenance that he's not a fluffybunny of the first water.

In fact, you should be bloody banned for posting that! 🙂

@Chris-B hell of a run out wasn't it.

I'll take my banning with the grace of an ANZAC 😁

Back on topic, a day before it starts, this world cup has 7 teams that could take it. Windies and SA have the batting and Pakistan at home are worth a cheeky tenner! 😉

Back on topic - I'm wondering who is going to make the XI for NZ's first match.

In my mind there's a good case to convert Tom Latham back to being an opener and play both him and Blundell. It's not like Nicholls or Munro has played themselves into compelling form ahead of Latham.

Bowling against the Windies was largely a shitshow. I'm inclined to think that Henry may have played himself out of the XI, so maybe we will see: Guptill, Latham, Williamson, Taylor, Blundell, Neesham, CdG, Santner, Southee, Ferguson, Boult.

Possibly worth considering Sodhi to take CdG's place - especially if there's any hint that spin might be a good option.

Why would we pick Blundell ahead of Nicholls? Surely Nicholls has established himself in the team. I don't care what he scores in the warm ups. He has earned the right.

Given how bowlers often go for big runs in their 10th it's lucky that Henry only got to bowl 9 ....

@hydro11 Not as an opener, I don't think Nicholls has. He hasn't come out and generated a compelling strike rate in any of his turns opening - in part, because they've kept giving Munro turns, so Nicholls hasn't been given a decent run. Whereas, before Latham got asked to open and keep he was doing a good job opening.

Right now, we've got a bunch of guys who are undercooked - I say pick one of the few guys who's showing some form.

For me the question is more who opens - Latham or Nicholls, rather than if Blundell plays. Though I'm prepared to concede that the selectors might see this differently. But, I haven't been impressed with our selectors or administrators in 2019.

Good to see you're still about Mr Xpat. Sobering thought that the role was almost 20 years ago ....

Damn right. Nicholls walks in no question.

Poms 1/1 after 2 balls. Tahir opened the bowling.

Would have paid good odds if you picked him as first wicket taker.

Nicholls should be at 5 if he isn't opening. That's what we should be doing anyway.

SA must have watched footage of the 1992 CWC team and Dipak Patel opening the bowling

This game shows how good England is. Lose an early wicket but keep on going.
