I know this discussion happened in the 7 thread but to me the biggest conundrum is Jones v McCaw. McCaw edges it for being a dual world cup winning captain but Jones might have been the better player.

Jones better as an athletic freak and pure 7.
McCaw better as a smart rugby player, grinder, and then RWC winning leader
It's comparing apples and oranges. Jones redefined 7 play athletically; McCaw forced changes to the lawbook because of his effectiveness ... I'm genuinely conflicted. Wound up voting Jones, but not convinced it was the right choice
Edit: wound up with Jones due to mates who saw both play. They revered McCaw, but still thought Jones was the best athlete they'd seen play. I wasn't into rugby when younger, so can't compare them ... comparing stories with what I've seen. McCaw is the GOAT for me, best sustained rugby player I've ever seen.
