@booboo yep, once we hit Townsville I think we're basically home

12 hours yesterday and 9 today. And that's from Noosa let alone the GC.

Probably the last time we'll do this one.

@mariner4life its not high on my list to repeat any time soon.

Kind of enjoyed the experience though.

But @MajorRage 's suggestion of a flying machine has merit.

Where was your waypoint? Ayr (as mentioned above)? I can hardly remember which town that is ... Not being familiar they all seem to blend into themselves and I can't work out which town we went through in what order, or where we stopped etc ...

That's two pretty hefty days of travel, though. Thought Noosa was a short leg (about 3 hours from GC?) leaving you some decent travel days to get home. Enjoy the beer - always good after a long drive.

From what I've been reading about though, the knee-jerk reaction of Aus politicians to small Covid outbreaks, does add a fair bit of risk to using these new fan dangled flying machines. Chances of being stuck seem quite high.

All in all (this year anyway), right decision is probably to drive.

Its drive, but also to keep the family together if going interstate. Its amazing how quick state premiers have been to slam a border shut, so you also need to be prepared to not be able to get home if you risk crossing borders.

    Weird times.

    Nah we stopped in Mackay.

We weren't taking the risk of leaving the state. And even then we were close to being caught in a Lockdown

    Travel! It's back!!!

Well, sort of. Gotta start somewhere.

NZ for a long w/e in a couple of weeks.

Then Cairns/Port/Daintree in June with the fam - who has the oil on the must-do's in that neighbourhood? @mariner4life you must have some ideas? @booboo you were there recently?

Will do a day on the reef from Port, what else should we do with the pre-teen kids?

@voodoo just don't try and hook up with @mariner4life . Fluffybunny fucks off to the Gold Coast when you go visiting.

    And don't drive there ... it's a fucking loooong fucking way ...

Anyways ... said local hooked us us for a visit to Kuranda and the tourist attraction his mob runs up there, which was really cool. The Aboriginal experience was cool, as was the army duck.

Obviously the reef. Talk to said local about where would be best. We went on Silver Swift on recommendation. But there seems to be a million of them. You can go out from Cairns or Port Douglas. Did not find Nemo.

Hartley Croc farm was cool too.

Captain Cook Highway pretty spectacular, but we only drove as far as above croc farm.

Am sure we missed absolute shit loads, like the Daintree and Atherton Tablelands ... But we ran out of time.

We are also booked with Silverswift, but out of Port not Cairns

Looks like there is a lot to see/do!

@voodoo Cape Tribulation, croc spotting on the Daintree, lose a day up in the tablelands, just don't do what I did and see that there are tours to Undara and decide to drive there and back in the day without realising that there are set tour times for the lava tubes and arrive 15 minutes after it left - after a 4 hour drive

Cape Tribulation is beautiful, and there was a wildlife park on the way from Pt Douglas to CT (speaking from experience 15 years ago) where they have a Cassowary (allegedly, we did not see it). If you don't want to go all the way out to the reef (the trip is a couple of hours?) I have heard the Low Isles is very good, you can swim snorkel and it is a fraction of the distance if the kids are likely to get sick of an all day thing
