Consider a Lenovo thinkpad, the E490 looks a good deal

Work just gave me a new Lenovo Thinkpad. Perhaps my old one was shit, but I really like it. Also everything works so far.

Have been using a Lenovo Thinkpad for about 6 months now and really like it. I travel a fair bit with it and whilst it’s on the heavier side, it’s features and durability are great.

@Snowy Last time I cloned disks, I think I just used the free Samsung software that comes with their SSDs.

I love Lenovo. Had the T560 before my latest X1. Went great until I tripped over the power cord causing it to fall 2m onto a concrete floor.

Didn't go so great after that.

@Godder that looks good, but it's a bit light in storage with just the 512 SSD. Not sure if it can have further storage added, but external drives + cloud is totally viable.

@Paekakboyz agree, 512 isn't huge but as you say, external or cloud are options, particularly since it's going to be in a desk setup most of the time. There's enough budget left over on the ex-lease for options.

Turns out there's not much out there under $2000 with 16GB RAM and discrete graphics other than gaming or ex-lease laptops.

working with some grads a few years ago. Of the three of them, two had never sent or received a fax. One had sent one once when required by someone else. Time changes - they're talking about finally removing them from legal and pharmacies as the technology is just so outdated (but reliable)

In all honestly, if you aren’t a tech head or running some serious shit on Excel, you should be on Apple.

@MajorRage why? Other than for graphic design stuff, what is Apple actually better for?

I don't understand Apple at all. Windows makes more sense but its what I'm used to

@canefan yeah same. That was a genuine question. I had a mac and an iphone about a decade ago, but swore off apple forever when I spent weeks trying to move photos onto an external hard drive unsuccessfully, then both machines karked it (is that how you spell that???) within a day of each other.

I never got the operating system of the mac, but to be fair never really persevered with it either.

Genuinely interested to understand why people prefer them these days.
