Another coup for the Canes, after Billy Procter and Julian Savea. No room for Fletcher Smith now

Very promising First Five/ Fullback but I question the timing of his signing due to his age.

No choice. A player as promising as Ruben would be snapped up by another team.

Very happy with this signing. Hope he can be developed as a future 1st 5

Proctor was signed a few years back. But hes still only 22 so still time for him to come good. To me he's a center but needs a powerful 2nd 5 inside him. Maybe UJ at 2nd 5 might work

          Or Lincoln McClutchie.

@Stargazer Would have expected Visinia, Fomai and Parsons to be snapped up also.

@ARHS Yep. Hopefully another franchise shows some interest, because it seems the number of Magpies at the Canes is only decreasing ... I think we were over our quota, last year.

@Winger Just a little odd that both long-term signings were competing for fullback berth with Wellington, and Jordie, Tiatia and Toala already play there for Canes. So, I assume Love is intended as a 10 in place of Smith

@Machpants He was very good at prem level and was showing signs at Mitre 10 level good pick up, though I really wanted McClutchie.

Love is a 1st 5 playing fullback. I'm not sure why these young players need to be fast-tracked though. Give them a development contract first.

@Bovidae I think to stop other teams coming in with Fulltime contracts and signing them is my guess.

Canes need to find a good super rugby first 5. Not another adequate option. we've got 2 already. One who isn't even a starter at NPC level

@Winger Sometimes McClutchie starts, sometimes he doesn't. There seem to be tactical reasons for that, just like they prefer to bring on IWL and Evans from the bench. McClutchie has the potential to become much better than the first fives signed by the Canes. He's ready for that step up IMO, unlike Love.

Not for the Canes, but he has played a lot at fullback for Hastings Boys and his game for NZU20s. He was excellent from the back. He also has a good boot.

@ARHS He must be a long-term project though, because he's no where near SR quality, yet.

                                      Hes 19. give him time.

Well that’s the fucking point, why’s he getting selected if he needs time?

Because if the Canes don't sign him another team will.

Why would another team sign him if he needs time?

At 19 Love already looks like a strong prospect. He was one of the shining lights for Wellington this year. Sound on attack, fearless on defence even playing at 15 and seems to be one of those players that pops up at the right moments.

Can’t wait to see how he goes with better players around him.

@Canes4life You seem to have forgotten that a lot of those players around him at Mitre 10 Cup level for Wellington are also Hurricanes. Are you finally conceding that those said Wellington players are not "better players"?
