Izzy looked great in round one. The fight settled into a pattern after after that. Whittaker getting takedowns but not able to keep him down or inflict damage. Adesanya more accurate on the feet but the volume of both fighters was low Cannonier should provide a fun fight but there's a gap in class from Whittaker down to all the rest

No way Whittaker was a chance unless he could close the gap or as you say do more with the takedowns. He improved after the first round but it was never in doubt overall.

Whats left for Adesanya at middleweight? Robert Whittakerx 2
 Marvin Vettorix 2
 Jared Cannonier
 Derek Brunson
 Paulo Costa
 Sean Strickland
 Jack Hermansson
 Darren Till
 Uriah Hall
 Kelvin Gastelum
 Brad TavaresThe UFC probably doesn't want Whittaker to fight any of the people that haven't had a shot yet. Rob's nexts two fight should probably be Vettori and Costa Cannonier is next for Adesanya. Then what? Maybe Strickland if he has a solid win? However Strickland will probably struggle against everyone ranked ahead of him. So it's a big call who they put him against next It looks like Izzy is slowly gaining muscle mass for a real crack at LHW. Maybe 3 more fights in this division? I don't think we'll see a 3rd Whittaker fight

UFC 272 Covington v Masvidal Covington dominated and never looked like losing Masvidal flat Title fights don't appear to be in his future, but big match ups with the likes of McGregor keep him relevant Holland the real deal

@mikethesnow said in UFC: Title fights don't appear to be in his future, but big match ups with the likes of McGregor keep him relevant He's still has a high profile so he'll get some interesting fights and big pay days I do think he has been a touch overrated though. People like the back story, then he had that hot streak of results/attention (beating Till, the altercation with Edwards, the amazing Askren KO, beating Diaz) A solid top ten guy who can drop anyone. But all that fake belt shit was so cringey I want to see him fight Edwards. It's probably not in Edwards or the UFC's interest though. Usman needs fresh blood

@duluth
 Covington and Whittaker have been suggested but id like to see covington take makachev for a no.1 contender. Covington is clearly the smaller of the welterweights. and id love to see and american wrestling vs sambo fight.I dont see covington going anywhere at middleweight. Mcgegor - Jorge would be a huge Payday.

@Duluth You might be interested in the Eugene Bareman episode on Tana's podcast. Eugene's really impressive. I think this would rank as the best interview I've heard with him.

@dice Thanks for that, it was interesting Bareman is a lot better in long form interviews. He's not concise and takes a while to get to his point. Which isn't great for most media interviews He does give some decent interviews to "CombatTV" and "It's time for sports" both on youtube. That second channel is run by Christopher Reive the NZHerald journalist. He deserves credit as being one of the few mainstream journalists in NZ that does good MMA coverage
