@crazy-horse this is interesting. Agreed you cant just give the 10 digits with no break but i give mine as 4, 2, 4 because i a have a couple of number double ups and that flows better

Well, I hope you and @Nepia don't end up having to give me your mobile number. Give it to me like that and I will be finding a ticket to write you!

typical cops, abusing their power to get their prefered phone number configuration! to the streets! its government overreach....my number my choice...etc

    It keeps us sane.

I didn't realize numeral cadence kept modern cops sane out on the beat. In my day it was doughnuts.

I think it's more worrying that not keeping cadence can set an armed man off.

Also, if I was a cop your use of the American z instead of s would have set me off. I'd be accessing Police databases now trying to track you down.

but he did you the more traditional spelling of Doughnut and not the more american Donut.....its a rollercoaster

because American Donut is too close to Doh!nut and Doughnut is made of Dough...I do have some (slight) etymological principles...

Have I told you the time I was bailed up for writing artefact instead of artifact by an American and a guy from the mother country had to step in and defend me? No?
    The scars run deep...

To cut a long story short, there are very educated Americans out there that don't realize there exists different spelling in the UK to America (let alone the colonies).

and our street address is 6 which the aussie love asking me to repeat

I don't get 6 very often, but I have had odd conversations about pens/pins, and that's with workmates from different countries.

Probably a statement to avoid if you've picked up an Aussie accent.

Ok, now you've got me grumpy. It's 5-3-3. Always. As the first two numbers are always the same so it's basically 3-3-3.

@majorrage the second set of 3 is a triple though, so the cadence works! Otherwise it's just weird.

Although to be fair, I often find that people struggle to know/understand the word "triple". It's quite eye opening.

Same when spelling my last name and fuckwits always spell it the wrong way, which is the most uncommon way. When I spell it out and say "double" people stop writing.

The only time the 4-3-3 rule should be broken is to accommodate doubles and triples that don't fall in the pattern.

People are fucking dumb. What are you going to do?

Nah the rule shouldn't be broken for doubles and triples. The pause between each group of numbers should be enough to avoid confusion.

And then you answer "three 3" just to make them even more confused. Works even better with double 1.

@crazy-horse I always have to spell my last name, and always have to start with 'B for Bravo' otherwise people use a 'V'

I give out my mobile 3-3-3, the wifes number is 3-3-4, my landline is 3-4...is much harder to take down a number when it isnt in the format your mind uses for numbers.

Thanks for the tip, Bobby Bagina. 😉
