Actually I just think the Indians historically focused on batting and their neighbours the opposite. Now it is a more complete game (for everybody).

Yeah true, India have a much richer history of batting greats ( probably to the detriment of their bowlers ) but I suppose Miandad, Inzi the spud and Younis Khan had terrific records.

And it's not like India didn't have bowlers (Kapil Dev), but they are generally more famous for their spinners than their quicks. Pakistan by contrast have always seemed to be able to churn out a number of fast medium or quick bowlers, some of whom were excellent all time talents like Wasim and Waqar

@MN5 years ago they got Lillee to help set up a pace bowling program. Since then they've apparently used McGrath to. Given how shit their pace attack used to be, it's a remarkable improvement

"shit" might be a bit rough but they were definitely military medium on the whole. I always found it odd that next door neighbours Pakistan could produce Hall of famers like Imran, Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib etc and the best they could manage was Srinath, Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma......a definite step down in quality.

        Allahu Akbar?

Got to be pitch related doesn't it? Must be depressing as a kid on Indian pitches?
Hard to know with Pakistan as they don't play ant home but i assume that they had more bowler friendly wickets.

Interesting question. NZ has produced a small handful of world class players, except maybe opening batsmen and spinners.......Maybe Oz and England are the only ones who've got every base covered due to their longevity ? ( ie hard to pick a genuine class Windies spinner although Lance Gibbs sounded decent )

Got a few more? I'm struggling for India...

They had Kapil Dev but I reckon he was easily 4th best out of the 80s quartet of all rounders. Took him fucken ages to beat Paddles record. The much maligned ( on here ) Chris Cairns had better stats in both disciplines.

Given these guys are untroubled at the moment, I'm thinking we're headed for a draw with 2 days of mostly wet weather predicted.

Paine can't declare early in case it blows over, and he can't settle for anything under 300 runs as a lead.

Looks like that despite the weather to be honest. A risky declaration looks the only way to make a game of it.

While they're getting the fuller deliveries in the search for swing, these two look young blokes look great for India in this situation. Simple technique, anger punishing the bad balls.

Starc has not looked anywhere near his peak all series. His rhythm is all out. Not enough nookie in lockdown?

Gotta give it to the Indians, they have a lot of fight in them for a side down to their bare bones.

We failed miserably there last year.

While they're getting the fuller deliveries in the search for swing, these two look young blokes look great for India in this situation. Simple technique, anger punishing the bad balls.

Starc has not looked anywhere near his peak all series. His rhythm is all out. Not enough nookie in lockdown?

Well given it'd be like making love to a young Ian Healy with a ponytail I applaud his decision to be honest. It should keep him angry which is key for a successful fast bowler.

I wonder if it didn't start with Imran Khan? Inspired generations by being waayyy cool. Similar pitches in both countries I think. It's an interesting quirk how one made gun quicks and one didn't.
