Oh good, let's hold him up as the standard.

Good team.
I'm starting to like Foster's selections. There's a good mix of consistency, giving players a couple of games to prove themselves (or not in Bridge's case) and easing players back who've been out for a while.
He seems to be getting the best out of players who've been on the margins as well. The likes of Akira Ioane and Scott Barrett have really knuckled down and seem different players from past years. Ditto RIoane.
I'm expecting another tough game on Saturday - it's the Boks after all - but with far fewer mistakes from the AB's. Wouldn't at all be surprised to see a different game from SA. Their players are way more skilful than kick and chase and they'll do whatever they can to grab a win.

Well they've been saying repeatedly all week that they did enough to win, it's their DNA, and they'll stick to it. So it would be a very big surprise, and a great bit if deception, if it's not same same for SA again.
This time the abs have seen it before and are ready

I think we knew exactly what was coming - but we executed terribly. Gifted them points, didn't read the ref (random though he was), and just dropped or turned over so much ball.
We hold half the balls we coughed up last week, we win by 15

@machpants plus that is how they played all season, are they really gonna step outside thier comfort zone now?
I mean 3 Ls on the bounce should prove they need to change, but I'm not sure the cattle they have right now is capable.of such a change in a week

Who is the ref? Either way we need to take protecting the breakdown into our own hands

It's different knowing what was coming and experiencing it. Some players there never played SA before, some not much versus SA super teams even.
In addition no one saw the box kicks in the attacking zone, that's new

@machpants that last one from Faf was certainly a surprise, surely for his team too...sheesh.

A real good point. Explains some of the nerves and not understanding how to adapt to the opposition

Regardless of gameplan, the Boks are the most difficult opposition we play. They are the best at consistently negating what we are trying to do, and they are relentless

Too true, we beat SA comfortably. But this is why a dominant win is needed for me to take a step towards agreeing with Foster being reappointed. All Blacks haven't dealt with style under late Hansen or Foster. Real improvement is required, not seen it so far. I gave benefit of the doubt for this first one, but no more

Tend to agree with you.
But I liked the way the team dogged the win when things were pretty much going to shit. Showed character under pressure, unlike under Hansen in 2018-9 & Foster last year when we lost in similar situations. That's progress for me.

Hopefully Taylor sorts out his throwing, that had a huge impact on what we could do last week. We were forced to keep throwing at 2
That was the boks doing more than Taylors throwing IMO.
Well I remember one going to the back with Akira being lifted where it hit him in the stomach. How did the boks force that?
Whenever it went long it was off target.
Bad lift probably.
It wasn't a timing issue, the ball never made it to the target.
I don't remember that one so only guessing .

If SA had a bit of attacking nous, we'd have lost. They just had nothing when we fucked up

Carley. He did the Aust-Arg game last weekend and the Aust-SA game a week earlier. He looks the better of the two English refs.

Either way we need to adapt faster if he is loose at the breakdown. I want to see us front up physically

No real quibbles on selection. Might have started Blackadder at 6 with Akira on bench for a long burst in second half as boks tired. Would prefer Samisoni as reserve hooker but hope this means he might start v USA. I do like the look of the backline and the bench potency. Let's run them off their feet. Just hope Carley loosens up on his tight control of infringements. I want to see more flow and mistakenly thought Pearce would assist that. Ardie you need to help influence that flow through the ref.
