Rotorua look in best place to be the other finalist - they have NP in the final round.

Hastings need to knock over the evil empire from the Tron.

Yep, I can see both Hastings Boys' and Napier Boys' miss out on a spot in the final, this year.
In better news, they're still ranking higher than Palmerstong North and Gisborne, meaning that Hastings and most likely also Napier will play against the Wellington schools for the Hurricanes Cup and a spot in the Top 4.

@Can-I-Play-too Think you will find the Scots College have given up trying to scholarship their way into the Top 4 and have been taking part in the Co-Ed schools version.

@Higgins How long has that been the case? In the last few Co-ED Top 4 tournaments, it was Feilding HS that represented the Hurricanes region. Scots College haven't been to a Top 4 (in whichever version) since 2015.

From this year, the Co-Ed Top 4 will no longer take place. It has been replaced by 3 regional Winter tournaments.

I went to watch the St John's vs St Paul's game. The St John's backs have size and speed, and take most of their opportunities. The caveat being that the St Paul's backs are quite small. Assuming Hamilton BHS and St John's play each other to decide who is the Waikato representative in the Chiefs Top 4 playoffs that will be a 50/50 game.

I finally had an opportunity to watch the Hastings vs Hamilton game. A ballsy decision by Nigel and Greg to sub Hamilton's best and most experienced players early in the 2nd half, including the co-captains. Good experience for the younger players though.

I think @Bovidae predicted Hamilton wouldn't win this year and I was pretty incredulous (aside from the chance Hastings might win of course) so thumbs up there.

@Nepia Hamilton only has 4 players left from last year so almost a completely new team.

Not a great way to lose the game. The penalty that gave RBHS the field position was a terrible call I thought. Fine margins.

I thought that some Spencer magic might have sealed the deal for Hamilton but not to be.

St John's Hamilton lost the CNI final too, and will play Hamilton BHS next Sat I'm told.
