@Stargazer Played on the left wing. Did not really pay that much attention to the game as I was too busy pressing the flesh with Tamatea supporters and one of them who knew of him from his Pirates days sort of referred to him as Cruz but used another family name. Anyway he looked ok but think that might have been the first time I have really looked at him.
Tamatea were surprisingly competitive and although the scoreline would not indicate it they gave as good as they got. In fact their 21 points were probably the mosty my guys have conceded all season. They did have Keanu Kereru-Symes and Denon Robinson Bartlett startling and Lincoln McLutchie coming off the bench. KKS got binned for a high tackle, something a similar infringement from one of my guys did not receive. Tech again too powerful up front which meant there was never any real danger of defeat but you have to admire Tamatea for the spirit in which they played. And for @Nepia their Clubrooms are indeed back up and running after they were closed for a year or so maybe three years back, long may they prosper.
Both The Barracuda and Ash Dixon were on the sideline watching their fellow Texans annex the Nash Cup with a round to spare. This is my guys first win of that trophy since 2013. The party is in full swing, sadly without my participation! Oh and someone told me Hika Elliot was also amongst the spectators at the game.

My cousins not going to be happy, he's just had a new born. 🙂

I think they may close up soon for good though as the hapu are looking at putting more papakainga housing in around there.

The Clive v Tamatea match will have huge ramifications.

If Clive win, Tamatea are relegated.

If Tamatea win, and Central lose to MAC then Central are relegated.
If Tamatea win, and Central beat MAC then Clive will be relegated.

The above doesn't take into account the possibility of bonus points.

If Tamatea beat Clive it is possible for a five-way tie on 13 points between Tamatea (no bonus point), Aotea (lose to Hastings with no bonus point), Pirates (lose to Havelock with 1 bonus point), Central (lose to MAC with 2 bonus points) and Clive (lose to Tamatea with 2 bonus points).

If 3 or more teams finish on the same number of points the rankings are determined on points differential.

@Number-10 Talking to some of the Tamatea management in the Tech Clubrooms last Saturday night they are confident of rolling Clive and quite frankly I thought they looked a reasonable team eventhough the score did not really show it. Clive got rolled by about 80 points when they played my guys but obviously have improved a bit since then but weighing things up I would put my money (or hopes in all honesty) on a Tamatea win. If Lincoln McLutchie starts it will make a huge difference, along with the Robinson-Bartlett boys in the backs and Keanu Kereru-Symes and prop Mason Keane along with a couple of other useful "no name" players should be enough to see them home. They do have a couple of very young guys as well and their overall depth might be tested, time will tell I guess. Clive obviously hamstrung by having none of their Super Rugby players available for them.

To be brutally honest we cannot afford to lose any clubs from the Premier grade. Once you go down it is a mammoth task to get back up again as many players will depart to other premier clubs making it even more difficult to get back up again. The second Division will be way too easy for the relegated club and there will be lots of blowout wins for the relegated team. Aotea have proved that right to a certain extent but they have looked competitive amongst the teams surrounding them in the lower levels of Premier and it is important that the players in Dannevirke have something to aspire to. Similarly Central HB. Give Aotea a bit more time and they may develop more players to become a bit more competitive in years to come but being a small area far away from getting City players travelling to play for them it will be a challenge for them numbers wise. Not so much for CHB who are a little over half an 3/4s of an hour away from Hastings/Napier so not such a travel commitment time wise (wouldn't like to be paying the fuel bill at the moment though!).

Is the ref harsher on Tamatea, or are they indeed as ill-disciplined as they look? That includes the off-the-ball stuff.

It's a pity that Tamatea fielded an unregistered player earlier in the season, because that's what has ultimately cost them their spot in the premiers division. Without the points deduction, Pirates would again have been relegated.

@Nepia The team was Pirates in case you missed that whilst the name Sean Morrison indicated some sort of poach from either Ireland or Marist.
Oh by the way, don't look at the points table for the Nash Cup if you want to continue laughing!

A change at halfback, also takes away an almost 100% goalkicker. One of those named in the starting lineup might well feature in the Exodus thread shortly (one of the Clubs in the Greene King IPA Championship (Pommie 2nd Div)) if my sources are correct.

@Higgins will be happy with the Tech Women winning the women's competition, after beating Hastings 38 - 7!

That's a double for Tech Women, who also won the Marsh Cup, earlier in the season.

@Stargazer Yes, But it must be recorded that it is a combined team comprising Tech and Taradale players. Having said that Tech had ten of the starting lineup and Taradale five. My leave pass ran out at 6.00pm and they were only then moving from their private celebrations in their rooms into the main lounge shortly before I had to depart. Needless to say they looked extremely happy with themselves. I managed to Petone Shuffled my way to the front of the queue and got one of the first sips out of the Cup when they brought it in!
Incidentally the Hastings 7 points came well into injury time of the second half. A bit gutted that the Ladies did not quite down trou them.
