Tui line-up v Northland. The time of 2.05pm in the picture is wrong; kick-off time is 4.35pm. The idiots from NZR have scheduled our women's team's FPC game at the same time as the Magpies' game!

@Stargazer Think Sky TV would have the biggest say what time the games are to be played

@Stargazer Have the lineups for this afternoons Wanganui v HB Saracens game at Tremain Field been revealed yet as I'd like to take a copy with me so I know who is who whilst watching the game?

@Higgins I haven't been able to find them. Only the Central HB Representative team's line-up for their game against Horowhenua-Kapiti in Levin.

@Stargazer Looks like the top of this page sums up the HBRFU information releasing attitude to a tee or at least in this instance

I am not sure what the final score was but something like Wanganui 50 - 27 HB Saracens would be close.

Embarrassingly for all concerned there were no ballboys and no scoreboard or time clock operating (even though they were there sitting waiting for the on switch to be flicked), nor were any team sheets handed out at the gate. Furthermore there was a curtainraiser between Hawkes Bay Under 19 and Taranaki Under 19 that seemed to take everyone by surprise as all those I spoke to were not aware of it taking place before they arrived at the ground. No idea of the score but Taramaki took a scrum right on full time from a very easy kickable penalty so that would indicate they were probably at least four points behind.

To sum it all up maybe the HBRFU also were unaware of both the games taking place given the absence of anything you would normally expect to see? It might have been games played at the amateur level but that does not mean there has to be an amateur effort put into staging the events.

Just saw the results of today's rep games on Twitter:

                Hawke's Bay U19 38 - 17 Taranaki U19
                Hawke's Bay Development 27 - 45 Whanganui
Horowhenua Kapiti 40 - 17 Central Hawkes Bay

In the Farah Palmer Cup, the Tui had a big win against Northland in Whangārei: 32 - 17!

At least the Wanganui press knew the game was on and even sent their own reporter over to compile a report. Interestingly both newspapers (HB & Wanganui) are owned by the same organisation, but far different sports news priorities in each by the looks of things.

@Higgins Ha, I had read exactly the same text on the Whanganui Rugby website. They must have the same close relationship with the Whanganui Chronicle that the HBRU used to have with the HBT (until the HBT significantly reduced their rugby coverage; unfortunately, nothing to find on the Hawke's Bay Rugby app anymore either).

I have no doubt there will be an U19 (preseason) game, this weekend, as the official tournament for the Central Region Shield starts on 27 August. I haven't been able to find out yet, who and where they're playing. Most likely a team from outside the region. They have already played Waikato and Taranaki. Maybe BOP?

@Stargazer Given the paucity of information we got last weekend you would be better advised scrutinising the websites/social media thingys of possible opponents than wasting time with their HB counterparts.

@Number-10 At the next HBRU meeting you should suggest that they use some of their small surplus to retain @Stargazer's services and he can run their social media/media/team releases etc as he basically does it for free now.

@Nepia Hahaha. They should just do what others do: publish squad lists and their playing schedule on their website. Look at Waikato's U19 page. Easy peasy. Then one post on their FB page with the match day 23 (& k/o time + venue) before the match and one post after with the result. Done!

Can anyone give a little info on Ross Shield please.

Teams? From what I remember South CHB, West etc who else

                                  Weight restrictions?

                                  Age, Y7 & 8 and are Y6 players eligible?

Do they have a tournament team that goes to Roller Mills?

                                  Cheers

@Paj Hi Paj, here's some info:

The Ross Shield tournament is usually held in the first week of October.
The participating teams are Central HB, Hastings West, Wairoa, Dannevirke, Napier and Hastings East.
Players may not have passed Year 8 (so no high school students), is age-restricted to players under 14 years old and weight-restricted to kids under 57kg. Teams can be mixed boys and girls (although the number of girls is still limited).
At the end of the tournament week, a tournament team will be named that will play one or two games, but never heard they go on to Roller Mills. There are several trophies to be played for, too.

There is also another weight restricted tournament - the Wakely Shield Tournament - that is played the following week.
Teams: Hastings East, Saracens, Napier East, Wairoa, Napier West, Central HB, Hastings West and Barbarians.
Not sure of age restrictions, but the weight restriction is 50kg.

Here's a link to the Ross Shield programme of 2015 that has a lot of interesting info about the Ross Shield tournament: https://knowledgebank.org.nz/text/ross-shield-2015-programme/

@Stargazer 57kg, wish it was that weight in my day (I think it was 50 or 52kg) then I wouldn't have had to starve myself on the bus.

@Nepia Think it might have been eight stone weight limit when I played in the early 70s. Need I gloat but my team won every game to nil en route to winning the Shield!

That's roughly 50kg? So it didn't change much in a decade and a bit.

Sadly we didn't win, we came second to the evil empire of Napier. Was the final tournament that Taupo played in (and it was in Taupo).
