Final thought from me before I rescue the TV from the swimming pool:

It's not that we lost, it's the way we lost. Zero progress, no coherent strategy or game plan and poor on-field management.

It's like watching a slow motion Tour de France crash over and over again.

Agree. I.can accept losing if we play our best. But we look like a rabble right now. And the ABs rarely do rabble

Did anyone else notice the comment from the great K. Read. on AU and ENG - talking about Dave Rennie and how ‘they’ve got a coach they are really playing for over there’. A short but interesting comment. I’d love to hear the comms team speak candidly.

Yet we can play so bloody well when we want to - e.g. 3rd quarter.

Even then I can't remember the last time I saw structured rugby from our MIB

But it was simple, basic, minimal-mistake rugby played at speed and with venom, which created pressure on the other side and allowed players with freakish talent to exploit the opportunities.

Why do we have to wait until we are 15 points down to play like that?

It reminded me of that 3rd quarter against France last year (on that occasion it was Ardie, AI & ST). Flashes of competence amongst the crap

The main problem is the tight five though. Their clean out work has been terrible for a long time

Absolute failure to secure the breakdown. You can't attack for numerous phases if you keep turning the ball over

When we are under pressure we hold the ball and start to compete physically.

Our biggest issue is kicking static ball. How many box kicks? What % did we regather.

And while I thought Ireland had a good chance of winning, never did I suspect they would get over 30 points. We leak like a sieve.

Ireland let the ball do the work and NZ were left watching

Hansen’s involvement in Keenan’s try was outstanding

Ball carrier, ruck protector, slotting in to outside half to split open the defence in three consecutive plays

Henshaw’s try should be in the coaching manual

Can't give benefits of the doubt any more. Hope Joe Schmidt gets quick promotion to head coach now.
Our hooker and midfield selections backfired unsurprisingly in my view. Outside the 50 22 Havili seemed just as pressured as Rieko all night. Taylor again failed to deliver. And the bench did not work. Needed more direction and intelligence when Smith and Cane went off but we seemed far more disorganised. Vaii gave it his all. But what was RTS there for?
Sure as hell hope we see Jordie at 12 Jordan at 15 and Rieko and Reece on the wing. Our kicking and kick chase so poor and we seem to have lost our connectivity on counter-attack.
Gibson Park and Beirne best on the park for me. Well done Ireland!

Agree - also I’d like us to reduce box kicks, cross field kicks, and kick long and for corners. Watched the Irish and they knew when they were going to kick and they had 3 or 4 chasers.

                        Razor will sort that out.

Changing culture doesn't come from the top - it has to come from the players themselves.

It does when they are dropped.

Just dropping players won't improve the culture - unless you want one of fear which never works.

You are massively underestimating the influence the coach has on the culture. A new leader in any organisation can have a huge effect on employees with the right leadership. It's just abundantly clear Foster doesn't foster a culture of excellence (sorry had to with the pun)

Not really. He can lead and identify the change needed, but that will only work if the players are on board so the culture change comes from the bottom up.

Threatening players with being dropped if they don't conform (which @Frank suggested) almost always has the opposite effect.

We had the same problems since the end of Hansen’s tenure. We are not winning rucks, collisions, like we used too, we kick the ball away like we do, and we have players whose error rate for test rugby is too high.

I'd argue that started during Hansen's reign. I'd also argue that Foster isn't the man to fix it.

                        This.

That's 2 wins from our last 7 games against tier 1 opposition.

                          Coaches have to go now.

NZ won the 2nd half. Shame in some ways as foster needs to go. But well done Ireland. 5 out of the last of 8

Let’s not do that. We used to belt teams and their only commiseration was that they won a 20 minute spell. Now we’re one of those teams ourselves. It’s beyond sad.

Is the TAB taking odds on Foster’s resigning? I’d bet on it. I can’t see how he survives this. The problem is patently obvious. He does not have the confidence of the players. It is almost tangible. This is an unhappy team, lacking confidence, direction and inspiration. With that comes the falling away of basic skills and a general passivity in play. No structure, no game plan, no belief. It’s the coach, for goodness sake. Sack the bloody coach!!

Schmidt is a selector and mentor to Foster so he is responsible for some of this crap over the last 2 weeks.
