Marnus was dropped, Smith injured from memory.

Thanks for a quick response ( I could have probably googled that but always nice when someone gets back to you 🙂 )

West indies 4/50odd. That's all she wrote. Long way back from here.

Yeah if any country has struggled at test level due to anyone decent playing T20 it's them.

That top order is Black Caps mid 90s bad.

The time is ripe for a Kerry Packer style "Supertest" rebellion - hiring all the batsmen that would rather bat like Bradman and Boycott, rather than BMac.

Fines to be issued for excessive runrates....

Rahul Dravid could get a recall......I remember falling asleep watching on the couch when he came out to bat then waking up about half an hour later and he was still on 0.......

        Damn right.

Legend at test level ( if a bit slow.....)

Check out this scorecard, I wouldn't believe it if it wasn't in front of me, did no one inform him you can't bat out a draw in an ODI ?

        https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/prudential-world-cup-1975-60793/england-vs-india-1st-match-65035/full-scorecard

        https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/alex-bowden-sunil-gavaskar-36-not-out-550658

Worth noting his overall record from 108 matches was 3092 runs at 35.13 at a decent strike rate ( for the era ) of 62.26.

So fuck knows what he was thinking during this game.

Unfortunately I can’t see it getting better anytime soon - this isn’t just a one off bad summer. Most of them are like this now or similar.

And trying to hype up the village level Super Smash for Jan/Feb? Please.

Can someone PLEASE tell me this is wrong ?

We haven't played a test since December last year......we're not due to play another til December THIS year.

Windies are touring, should be a good chance for a number of our guys to pad their averages ( although the Windies have unearthed a few good pace bowlers of late ) but according to this we only have a total of THREE tests this summer ?

            What am I missing ?

Windies have just rolled Australia for 180.
But yeah, we aren’t a viable commodity globally despite our results - and the ICC is a toothless tiger in dealing with T20 leagues. There should be international windows carved out (or franchise windows depending on your POV) Ala football - which is not a perfect system but international cricket risks dying if it keeps this up

Like I said, good pace bowlers. Seales and Joseph with 9 wickets between them. Great effort.

Their batting is another story, Kraigg Brathwaite has battled to 99 tests with a career average of 33. Says it all considering none of the others average over 30.

This test wont last 4 days

Rob Walter hasn't wasted time in making his mark on selection. Conway dropped for the T20 Tri-Series against Zimbabwe and SA. Seifert is now the first-choice WK.

That could be it for Conway. Not getting any younger and in a massive rut in terms of form.

Pretty hard to disagree with that, even when Conway's scored runs the last 2 seasons he's looked out of sorts.

Coaching in cricket is always a balancing act when a good player is out of form - you need to give them some time to try to regain form, but at the same time you can't just keep selecting them over new prospects longer term if they don't regain it.

I think Stead erred too much on the side of continuing to pick his established players despite poor results (Southee, Nicholls come to mind). I'm pretty happy if Walter is a bit more cut throat in that regard.

Yeah Conway had a magic start but his form has absolutely fallen off a cliff.

Will Young has done the opposite and showed he needs to be persevered with although it’s still a concern a big score in the longest form has eluded him.

He hasn't really nailed down t20 batting, yet. Even at domestic level. Looks like Seifert is who they are inking in for that for this T20 cycle.

The decision of Blundell or Hay for the upcoming test squad will be interesting, though.

Shame to see Mitch Hay miss out, thought had looked good in his appearances last season

Yeah I agree they should be developing him he is the best WK in NZ and showed enough for Canterbury and NZ in 20/20 to be selected.
Siefert is a hit and miss Wk who gets untidy in 20/20 you can't afford to let runs through behind the wicket a good 20/20 bat.

Weird thing is these tests aren't part of the current WTC cycle.
Disappointing (unsurprising however) that KW and a couple others choosing leagues/county cricket over playing for NZ.

Getting paid vs spending 5 days grinding in the heat in Zim ... you can kind of understand it. This is the modern way of cricket unfortunately - so much money in the leagues
