"The first half was even, the second half was even worse"

Don't want to take anything, absolutely anything away from Japan, but WTF was that?

          Pros:

          • We won

          • Even though we were generally shit, we didn't panic as much as we have in the past. Having said that, we were still shit and it was Japan.

          • Sotutu: Played well I thought

          • Reece & Clarke showed some nice touches

          • We now know our second XV is a bit crap

          Cons:

          • We now know our second XV is a bit crap
          • Mo'unga. 1-2 good touches but generally shit
          • Lineout: Dire. Sami T or BBBT take some blame here
          • Midfield: Shit but expected with Ennor & RTS plus Mo'unga's poor play. RTS did OK.
          • Christie: Has he slowed down or what? Seemed much snappier last year. Maybe affected Mo'unga's play
          • Mo'unga: Utter crap. Zero variation, crap kicking. What more can you say?
          • Frizzell: Looked anonymous. Probably was anonymous
          • Forwards: Average. Set pieces way below recent standards

          Summary

Happy at half-time as you expect that sot of stuff to happen but expected things to settle down, instead it got worse. At least we didn't panic and changed tactics for a while. Finally, good to see ALB back. But what the fuck is it with our concentration in games like this?

A narrow win is better than an embarrassing loss.

Still, this team has not "turned the corner" as some were suggesting after we the annual Wallabies flogging at Eden Park.

I'm not angry with Foster anymore. He's a shit coach that is established. Maybe he might become a slightly less shit coach by the time of the World Cup.

But I'm furious with the Koolaid slurpers (of whom Jeff Wilson is the very worst) who kept Foster in and Razor out in August. Everything that happens to the ABs in the next few weeks and until their humiliation at the next RWC is on the slurpers.

I'm nowhere near as despondent as others after that, and still very much looking forward to the EOYT. Japan are pretty decent at home these days, and we had a lot of disruption in the lead up so had a pretty makeshift team really. We also clearly don't have the depth of players that we used to, so I was never expecting us to stuff them by 50.

The team that ran out tonight is a far cry from the team that smacked the Wallabies at Eden Park. If we get our first choice 15 on the field then we're a formidable team. Obviously a couple of injuries to key players would put us in a bit of trouble, but that's true of any of the top sides at the moment.

I think we just need to give our top 15 plenty of gametime going into the RWC and hope we don't get any major injuries, which is basically what every other side is doing as well.

Sami T was good. It's the locks and the lifters. They were shit. I blame Ennor and Ioane. A

I blame Deans. Not for tonight but for a loss nearly 19 years ago. But I still blame Deans.

Cane reminds me a bit of Blake Gibson these days. Still puts in some real hits, tries his best, but his body just isn't up to it. Real competitor, but too many injuries.

@No-Quarter Yeah like you, take the win and move on. Japan's up tempo style and their ability to move the ball gave us fits, as well as their speed at the breakdown. No team in the world play at the speed the Japanese do, and although I expected us to win by more, I wasn't expecting a blowout at the same time.

@No-Quarter I’d say we have about 17 or 18 guys that could be in our top XV and we don’t necessarily lose anything. Beyond that we are still in unknown territory with a number of players.

On Japan, they are a pretty disciplined side in terms of how they maintain their defensive pattern. They played really well tonight and they had a couple of standout performers. Well done to them and their coaches.
