@Crucial I don't belong to the "Razor is the Saviour" group, but to me you sound overly negative. If Razor doesn't get the results; people will moan, because people moan a lot, not the least on the Fern. That would happen regardless of who was appointed. I can understand the excitement about Razor's appointment though, because he's been highly successful thus far, things haven't gone well the previous years and people just want to have hope that the ABs will get back to their best. Razor is different from other candidates, because he's younger, radiates energy and sounds like someone who'll come in with fresh ideas and methods. I don't think that excitement needs to be tempered on here. I think most Ferners are realistic enough to know that Razor can't change water into wine.

He can’t? Ah gutted. Thanks for the heads up though. It’s amazing the insider tips you pick up on this forum.

I'd say the vast majority here are simply in the anyone but Foster camp. The same will apply to Razor if he has the same lack of success.

I don't think your 2nd sentence is true at all. Winning clearly matters, and it enables you to look past heaps of faults. Losing sucks, and is not well tolerated by the AB fans, this forum being no exception.

However, the most frustrating thing about Foster is the lack of ambition and the lack of accountability. Doing the same shit over and over, and telling us that it's so close to clicking. Telling us he would address physicality then doing nothing of the sort. Selecting the same tired folk in the same positions, ignoring things that were staring the rest of us in the face until his hand was forced.

I can't see Razor doing any of these things in his stint as HC. He will be innovative and unafraid to try new things. Hopefully he even shows some accountability for the things that don't work. Even if he doesn't have immediate success, I think that will earn him far more leeway from the average fan that what Foster has been afforded.

If only Foster, on suspecting then learning he won't be AB Coach after the RWC had had the gumption to say "Oh well, learnings!"

No worries, thought it sounded a little name calling type thing, which surprised me from you. But whatever anyway.

you know, given the chat on here, and the constant appointments, it appears we have only had one decent coach come out of NZ in the last 20 years

And the first thing we did 20 years ago was sack him.

Clearly, that's how to develop good coaches and we need more of it! 🙂

Smith is one of the game's deep thinkers, and clearly loves NZ rugby. The extraordinary turnaround job he did with the BFs shows he's lost none of his ability. Excellent to have him on board.

I see no reason to be prickly about this. Wayne has been associated with success for NZR like no other person. He's clearly a cut above.

Robertson has been so hyped up by so many people, he had better not have any immediate failures and some pretty significant success within the first 12-18 months otherwise the shit thrown at Foster will look like a sideshow.

Leaving aside the clowns who want any AB coach who loses the Eden Park record to be immediately sacked, I can't see the great AB-supporting public putting up with failure just because the new coach isn't called Foster - no matter how much he claims he's being innovative.

And if and when that happens, I sure hope NZR grow some fucking balls, back him if they think fit and make sure Robertson doesn't get subjected to the same crap that NZR let Foster be subjected to.

I would doubt anyone would be prickly, usually he associated with success, and seems to be one of the great rugby brains.
Anyone who listens to what players say, is that real good brains like him and Schmidt etc, will when you ask a question etc, will come up with a replay that has explored 6 different scenarios.
It is actually something I have heard players say, we make a suggestion, etc and they will give so many different equasions etc. Think Smith will be so bloody goos in this role for both ABs and BFs coaches!!
Believe the likes of Eddie Jones are similar.

What clowns only want them to be sacked? Public execution in the middle of the field at a minimum, but probably after some extensive waterboarding.

                                I really hope you're right.

What's so difficult about it that it needs a dedicated coach? That sort of stuff should be Pro Rugby 101 like throwing into a lineout surely.

@Victor-Meldrew And yet it is consistantly poorly executed across the NZ teams.

Fair point. Sort of thing that NZR should be leading with at NPC & SR level I'd have thought.

Isn't it a culture rather than an execution thing? Our Super teams seem to want to play with the ball and that includes from kick offs.

Maybe (and I'm just spit balling) they have stats that show it's more advantageous to play with the ball even down their own end of the field, and that it doesn't often lead to tries to the opposition?
