From that article - "A 40-game win streak with Sumner promoted the team to the top division"

    That's crazy.

@Chris Yep, and I don't think that is a good thing at all. Razor is a marvellous coach, I rate him the best in the world, but the one thing that could hold him back, is an over-emphasis on Crusaders players.

Jason Ryan's forwards selections for the NZ XV last year (Namely Brewis and Lio-Willie) were very much with Crusaders tinted glasses on. I'd like to think with a couple of years away this won't be an issue, but you risk pissing off large groups of players who feel shut out as a result.

Maybe wait until the first squad is named before jumping to all sorts of wild speculation, assumptions and presumptions

I never said it will happen, I just said it is the only thing which could hold him back - which isn't wild speculation, I think it is fair.

I am so excited about the ABs going forward. From Lions tour on I have been just meh, as much as a tragic can be that way. I trusted the 3WM up to 2019, that they had dry powder, but they didn't. Foster was the worse stale male and whatever the thing is decision after that. I was originally planning on going to France for this RWC, but coaching team turned that right off years ago. But now, yeah this RWC, we won;t make it out of the 1/4s. And 2024 might be a bit crap. But fuck me anything is good after Foster, he is so shit, refuses to admit when it's gone to shit and is THE MOST BORING SPEAKER ever to be an ABs coach. I am just looking forward to some spark, intelligence, anything.

Bring on next year, this year will be as shit as the last 3, we'll lose the RC, and retain bled cos we only need to win one game and get fucked over in RWC. Bring on 24+

@Machpants I'm hoping it's going to be a bit like the transition from Toddy Blackadder to Razor in the ability of Razor to generate some excitement around AB rugby. I was a bit concerned he'd be a bit stranded with a dud first five, but DMac has come good this year and a couple of others showing promise.

I'm a bit more optimistic than you about Fozzie's chances at RWC - especially with Ryan and Schmidt as assistants. Unfortunately, our QF is going to be tough, whoever we get - and that's not usually helpful when it comes to winning World Cups.

@Tim Looking at that photo it would be very easy to draw a few conclusions of Brad Thorn somehow slotting in somewhere in New Zealand.

Like Fozzie has been ... I'm running to my bunker that hopefully includes protection from the Far South, the near South and the North.

He will remain with the Crusaders and take Over as HC there after Penny.
He is on a part time assistant contact to assist Steve Hansen with defence.

This is an odd set up if correct. Tatami is the Wellington head coach. His focus should be there (he's already an assistant with the Crusaders) not helping out an assistant with the ABs.

Key for Tamati now is to learn and prove himself as a head coach.

I disagree, he's got the technical skills and expertise to be an excellent assistant at the top level, he is a very detailed coach & unlike Holland he's had experience in a range of high-performance environments like the All Blacks, NZ Seven's, NZ Maori, Hurricanes, etc.. while already as a defense coach he's won 3 Super Rugby titles, an NPC title with Wellington.

His CV is (arguably) already better than Jason Holland, a guy who's been coaching professionally for 15 years now - with pretty average success and is turning 51 in August, so your comment about having to prove himself is dumb, as Taimati (40) only started coaching full-time 3 years ago and has undergone a rapid ascension under Razor's guidance.

If Jason Holland was an outstanding coach we would have seen evidence of it already, given he's a decade older and has 12 years of pro coaching experience over Ellison, so the experience argument doesn't really stick, it is usually apparent from the outset if a coach has a unique skillset - or doesn't.

                @kiwi_expat

Depends what Tamati wants. To stay as an assistant coach . Or to be a top level head coach. If a head coach the smart option in my view is to do what he's doing. Start at NPC level and then step up (as Robertson did) This will be hard enough to do as an assistant with the Crusaders. But also being distracted with the ABs will make it even more difficult.

And he's assisting Hansen not Holland (if the rumor is correct)

And he still needs to prove himself as a head coach. Interestingly Wellingtons NPC win was a big plus on his CV. He did this without Robertson The bigger plus will be if Wellington win again this year

Razor is going to inherit two scenarios post World Cup, a byoant All Black outfit which has won the World Cup and has a good winning run or depending on when they bowed out a train wreck and a massive rejuvenation.

@SBW1 Either way given it's the end of a World Cup cycle there'll be a real fresh start feel in 2024 given a number of stalwarts retiring/moving overseas/taking sabbaticals (Smith, Coles, Whitelock, Retallick, Frizell, Ardie, Reece, Beauden (?), Mo'unga etc)

Get back to your Bunker, Edith.

There's a distinct step down from Richie, DMac and Good Beauden - to the next level, but a couple of them are starting to look OK.

We should be good, with plenty of options, in the front row, loose forwards and outside backs.

Roigard and DMac should hopefully give us decent options in the inside backs if both are fit and available. Something to work with in the back-ups.

I'm not sold on our midfielders, but he'll have the same as Fozzie to work with.

He'll want Scott Barrett to stay fit at lock - and hopefully someone else (big) will step up.

Levi Aumua shapes as an impressive midfielder for the Crusaders and possibly the All Blacks. Really would like to see a bit more depth at 10 other than DMAC. Still waiting for Harford to live up to his potential and hopefully Zarn getting time at 10.
