@voodoo said in Australia v All Blacks - Bled I:

Despite the losses, coach Eddie Jones has fired a warning shot at the All Blacks, before the sides meet for the first Bledisloe Cup match on July 29.

"While it seems doom and gloom at the moment, it's not, he said. "Beating a side here is a fair bit of optimism that we'll be able to change fairly quickly in the next couple of weeks.

"If I was the All Blacks, I'd look out."

He sounds like a 13yr old challenging a classmate to a fight after school round the back of the bike sheds

Coach talks up his team and doesn't suggest they are simply going to get flogged this weekend ...

Too many people suggesting exactly this for me to be comfortable. I have no doubt we are the better team (based on what witnessed so far in the RC) but this match is never a foregone conclusion.

Sounds like he’s been taking notes off Brendon McCullum

Nah, screw that weak-ass attitude, we are going to fuck them up in Melbourne.

Steamroll right over the top of them, penalty-try scrums, rolling mauls from halfway, scything runs for 70m tries - likely point-a-minute stuff.

Heck, Will Jordan might outscore them on his own.

Probably. Australia are one of those teams that if we are up by 48 at half time, I'll still be slightly concerned.

Funny thing is, despite Australia's woes at the moment come RWC time they have a far better chance of getting to the SF than NZ, SA, France or Ireland

Wins against Portugal, Georgia, Fiji, Wales & Argentina sees them in a likely showdown against the winner of Ireland/SA v France/NZ

I'd rather be in Eddie's shoes than Fozzie's

@MiketheSnow I think Fiji and Argentina if they can get all their potential players available are going to be competitive with Australia come the World Cup.

If I was Eddie , I’d be trying to take advantage that the abs may just be a tad complacent after being 2-0 up against a team that is 0-2 , not firing warning shots 😁

It is about media attention. Like Cheika, he wants to keep the spotlight on his bullshit rather than the performances.

Yeah get that but I remember before the 2011 wc semi , and some Aussie players , kearns etc taking shots at Nz’s choking etc .

And nick Farjones saying , I think it’s a big mistake before playing Nz giving them motivation, our best victories have come from taking them by surprise against the odds . I always believe it’s best to not poke the bear and try and take them by surprise in the game itself

I think all of that talk has very little to do with what goes on out on the park. There may be a momentary thought of it perhaps during the anthems or the haka, but then the players just settle into their work. They are not thinking about what Eddie (or anyone else for that matter said) almost two weeks out from the match.

Given the break it’s about keeping a waning Oz fan base interested with some coverage.

Only change in starting XV might be Clarke getting a run at 11.
                Bench could see some variety.
Possibly Ofa/Coles/Nepo/Whitelock/Finau/Roigard/DMac/ALB if they want to chance arm.
Then a bit more leeway when Bled safely in cupboard.

Yep , I was at Chiefs game against Reds where exactly that happened. You could see then start to believe in second half and they just wouldn't lose after. It happens in games!

Are there any other good examples of players making the squad but never actually getting capped? Curious to know who missed out over the years?

Stevenson never made the squad, he was cover, which is different. However, it indeed happens with full squad members not getting a run as the coaches want them in for a looksie.

it wont be the difference between winning and losing , but I think little things can all add up to add extra focus to the group during the week as you are preparing

Strange was named in the AB squad in 2020 but had to pull out due to injury. He hasn't been selected since. There are a number of injury replacements who haven't been capped in recent years. Kirifi is one example.

I'll be more concerned if they come out all fire and brimstone at the start, and get ahead of us. The rise when they play us, and their backs are against the wall

                              Yep.

Like that time in Dunedin when we were 17-0 up after 20 and got run down because we're simply not good enough.

Yep seems the tickets maybe not selling great, seems the cut price ones alreadt released.

                                Quelle surprise.

Women's World Cup about to start. Ashes on. Limited money to spend.

And the fuckwits put it on at the 'G. AAMI Park would have been more like the crowd size, mostly dressed in black.

Players who haven't been involved yet :

Newell, Finau, Blackadder, Jacobson, Roigard, McLeod, ALB, LF, Stephenson. We might see a few of them on the team sheet. I expect the likes of Lomax, Scooter and Cane, who have had a big workload this year, to miss the selection.
                                  Possible team :

                                  De Groot
                                  Coles
                                  Laulala
                                  Lord
                                  Whitelock
Vai'i (he played 6 when he came in against the Boss)
                                  DP
                                  Jacobson
                                  Smith
                                  DMac
                                  LF (if fit)
                                  ALB
                                  Ennor
                                  Narawa
                                  BB

Sub : ST, Ofa T, Williams or Newell if fit, Retallick, Savea, Roigard, Mo'unga, McLeod.

We are the better team. But if we don't focus on our task we could get a shock

Are there any other good examples of players making the squad but never actually getting capped? Curious to know who missed out over the years?

Strange was named in the AB squad in 2020 but had to pull out due to injury. He hasn't been selected since. There are a number of injury replacements who haven't been capped in recent years. Kirifi is one example.

@African-Monkey But they (Strange, Kirifi etc) aren't that far off, considering they've been selected for the ABs XV. The exception is PU-J, who's been overtaken by Proctor.
