Arsenal utterly outplay Liverpool…and lose 0-2. Such profligacy in front of goal.

Arsenal dominated the game, but couldn't score. It says a lot about having possession and not being able to do anything with it. Arsenal have a soft underbelly and if they're not up by a couple goals they don't look like a team that can grind it out.

As an Arsenal fan, it is difficult watching this team. It is so more enjoyable watching Crystal Palace, Luton town or Wolves. There's so much more passion in the game and direct play.

I think they need a player different to Saka. He has become very predictable. But havertz and odegard needed to shoot yesterday!

That's a strange view. Palace are mostly dire except for Olise and Eze and Uncle Roy is endlessly pragmatic. Luton are a bit shit but know how to get it launched. Wolves are pretty good though. Thought Arsenal played some great football in that first half. Havertz takes languid to another level, he always seems to want to dwell on the ball when there is no dwell time available.

Franz Beckenbauer RIP. A player that changed football as a defender/midfielder.
Sam Kerr does her ACL - think there needs to be some serious work to prevent so many ACL injuries in the women's game.
Reguilon back to Spurs with rumours of Tino Werner coming in on loan.
Chilean superstart Ben Brereton Diaz on loan at Sheff U.
van de Beek to Frankfurt on loan.

@canefan You can like some things that spurs are doing without adopting their whole approach. At least they are scoring. Arsenal are not.

@KiwiPie actually, I think your response is kind of strange. I have watched games that Arsenal have played, and these other teams. We dominate possession and do what? The other teams that I mentioned live off scraps with supposed less talent and are scoring some good goals and don't seem to acquiesce. What's not to like about that even if they have granddad coaching them?

Contemplating this after seeing an article in Stuff with a slightly clickbaity headline as follows:

                    https://i.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/world-game/133536729/sam-kerr-the-latest-victim-of-an-injury-that-discriminates-against-women-footballers

It seems women are made different to men (1. Maybe one for the Trans debate thread, 2. Who da thunk?).

Learned this with teenage daughter playing netball. Said daughter apparently had Osgood-Schlatters Diease and Sinding-Larsen-Johannsen Syndrome, not uncommon in developing teenage girls. Essentially girl's hips, legs knees develop with different angles.

Given the specific rigours and dynamics of netball knee and ankle injuries are common, exacerbated by physiological development, and Aus netball has a specific programme to try and combat it. But has not eliminated the issue.

I wasn't aware until I talked to the physio, but hope this is drummed into coaches.

Kind of thing that needs to be developed in soccer?

                    But I digress...

Really?? think KP has a valid point, Luton second behind Shef U for most losses, Palace third behind Shef U and Burnley for least goals this season, Luton only scored 2 more goals than Palace..

Who do you drop for de bruyne and haaland? You can ditch the Croatian who is all kinds of average. And I suppose Alvarez.

If you know you can't get a full game out of him, he can have much more impact towards the end when the opposition is tiring - as was proven. Kovacic is just a squad player so I expect the front 6 of Rodri, Foden, KdB, Doku/Grealish, Haaland, Bernardo soon with Alvarez coming in regularly along with Bobb.

Must be more pleasant watching Spurs these days - at least they can get the ball from front to back without their first choice central midfielders. Could be a top 4 team once they can play a front 6 choosing from Bissouma, Sarr, Bentacur, Maddison, Werner, Johnson, Richarlison, Son,

Why de bruyne started on bench, I don’t know. O for awesome. City will be tough to beat with him available.

These are good times for Spurs fans. We have the forward line, but the back line is where we've solidified. Van der Ven, Romero, and I haven't seen the new guy from Genoa yet. Ange is doing a great job, no more cowering behind the ball afraid to make mistakes, and Daniel Levy seems to be supporting him in the transfer window

@canefan looks like Spurs have joined the race (with Arsenal and Newcastle) to try steal Dom Solanke as well.. I think Foley will hold but if an offer north of 50 comes.. then I think he goes. Liverpool stand to make a ton of coin if that happens too.

Not sure on Solanke - he's definitely benefited from Bournemouth's change of style and is a good all-round player but still unsure of him being good enough for the very best clubs. Arse are desperate for a striker having realised that Jesus is still the same player City sold to them and Newcastle need players elsewhere on the pitch as Solanke won't play ahead of Isak (and even Wilson if he ever stays fit).

And Messi wins FIFA Male player of the year. This really is a joke given the period being voted on was after the World Cup until Aug 23 during which time he .... played for PSG who didn't go far in the UCL.

@KiwiPie that question will always be asked as he failed at Liverpool to start with and it begs the question whether he has developed since then. Personally I think he has, but the style of play is important for him and the stats show that, if he goes to a team without the high press I don't think he will be a success. Plus there is always the attraction of no AFCON or Asian Cup headaches to deal with. Personally I hope he stays.

Wilson also a Bournemouth legend too, and no surprise Eddie knows them all
