Leicester City and Southampton are already relegated with five games to go. It's mathematically possible for Ipswich Town to stay up but they would need to win all five of their last five games by stonking amounts and for West Ham to get thrashed in all five of their games.

So it is looks like all three of the sides who were newly promoted in August are heading back down again with several games to spare. The gulf between the Premier League and the Championship has never been so wide.

FFP. If teams overspend and go back down, they're fucked.

It's hard enough for teams like Aston Villa and Newcastle trying to keep up with the elite. It's just as hard for promoted sides to stay in the division because of the rules.

The danger will be dropping further because of their financial position trying to stay up in the EPL

Except three seasons ago Fulham, Bournemouth and Forest were the promoted sides. All have stayed up, consolidated and are pushing for Europe. Helped by several of the 'powerhouse clubs' having shat the bed.

They have, and it's awesome too see, but the crackdown in the last 2 or so years on FFP breaching is stronger than ever now, with Everton and Forest being made examples out of.

Fulham and Bournemouth had both been up and down a bit before that, while Forest only just scraped through to 38 points.

I wonder if making a promotion stick is about having a couple of cracks to benefit from the extra cash and boosting your squad so that at the 2nd or 3rd attempt you can stick the landing.

Will be interesting to see if Burnley can stay up after their latest yo-yo.

@Cyclops Given the talent within their squad Fulham should have stayed up in the 20/21 season but for Parker.

Manager's can improve just like players but given his previous failures in the Prem with Fulham and Bournemouth I wouldn't be confident if I was a Burnley supporter.

Look at all the draws they've had in the Championship. Classic Parkerball. History suggests it gets found out at the top level

The problem for the promoted clubs is that they are reliant on one or more of the 17 established clubs to have a disastrous season - but next season the newest of these will be in their 4th season of EPL and their squads are now stacked with premier league quality. They have 2 full teams they can roll out whereas the promoted clubs have to start from a low base of a first team that will have some good players - but nowhere near the depth required.

Yeah none of those 17 look to be struggling in the way that West Ham, Everton have latelky. Well Spurs and United but they will get their shit together surely.

Having said that when Fulham went down in 2014 the pre season poll of pundits had us at 12th. A change of Manager at any of Palace, Brentford, Bournemouth, Fulham would make fans nervous.

Outside the top 6, Newcastle, Villa and probably West Ham all the other clubs are going to be relegated one day. It's simply a question of staving off that day for as long as possible and enjoying it while you can

A new doco will need to be made as Wrexham has been promoted to the Championship, their third consecutive promotion.

Congratulations to Palace. They were superb and that was a hiding.

But from a Villa point of view that couldn't not have been more humiliating. An appalling performance on a big stage. So far from the magnificent performances against PSG and Newcastle as to be scarcely comprehensible. We are a "rocks and diamonds" team at the moment.

Some of those players will never now win a trophy in a Villa shirt. Changes are needed in the summer to bring in players and leaders with more hunger and desire. Up the Villa!

And Adam Wharton was outstanding yesterday. Only 21 and with a massive future ahead of him. He reminds me of a young Roy Keane or N'goto Kanté. He needs to start in midfield for England in every game that matters.
