Even a Tay Tay miracle won’t save KC this time.

    What a game aye!

There's not a lot a QB can do when they are getting dominated at the line of scrimmage.

This was the first SB in a long time when I wasn't cheering for one team over another, but it would have been nice to have seen a closer game.

It goes to show that SBs are still won with a strong O line, dominant defence, and strong running game

Does it? KC won the previous two with a similar set-up to the one they had this year - patchwork O-line, decent defence, no RBs or WRs to speak of, but a generational QB and TE.

The 9ers had all those things you listed and couldn't get it done on two occasions.

Difference here I think was Mahomes having an all-time stinker, and Philly capitalising on a few big plays better than San Francisco ever did.

If you're Kyle Shanahan you're crying into your beer at home, thinking 'why couldn't we get THIS version of Mahomes?'

@barbarian we weren't able to pressure Mahomes the way that Philly did. No one likes getting put on the ground that many times

True. But it wasn't like previous Chiefs teams had a rock solid O-line.

Mahomes was rattled in a way I'd never seen before.

They'd squeaked their way through all season. Just got monstered by a more solid team

They key to this game, in my eyes, was the fact the KC O-line was unable to stop 4 guys getting to Mahomes at all. They did not blitcz once and yet got like 50% pressures and 6 sacks. If you can do that with 4 guys it also means your passing lanes are clogged and Mahomes had nothing to go to. Throw in Kelce having an all-time stinker and looking very old and slow of foot, and it just fell apart.

Fangio and that young athletic defence just dominated, and once the KC defence got tired from being on the field all day, the Eagles feasted.

Interesting off-season for the two SB teams. The Eagles will do what is supposed to happen to SB winners, and get picked apart (they have a lot of free agents). But they are stacked and they just keep nailing drafts year after year.

As Barb said, KC have skated by on very little elite talent outside of a couple of key positions. One of those guys looks cooked. Chris Jones is probably their only elite defender and he is 30. Mahomes is getting absolutely obscene money now so their ability to trade up is limited. They're not going away completely thanks to Mahomes and coaching (for now anyway) but even the Patriots fell away a bit between their two distinct dynasties.

If you're KC, trying to rebuild on the fly is hard but not impossible. After all you have Mahomes and that means you're a playoff team nearly every year - even now your division looks a bit tougher than it has in the past.

Surely they can upgrade at RB and WR. Get Rashee Rice back, another year into Worthy, put the ghost of DeAndre Hopkins out to pasture and find a few guys on the free agent market.

Then you put all the effort you can into the O-line and try and piece that back together.

Not even in the top 10! I think it was about 45M/year for 10 years. The base cap is 272M ... so there is enough room there to move around.

his cap hit is like $67M though (NFL contracts are complicated) which is 24%

They can push up to about 40m of that into the future though.

Jets are moving on from Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams

I am sure some desperate GM is going to take him on for a year of just above average QB play, and all the drama that goes with it. I don't know who though. The "win now" teams are all pretty set, and the rest are in development mode.

The funny one would be the Vikings, just for the symmetry

Someone will definitely pick Adams up.

Yeah Adams was good, just not worth the 34 million that he was due. I suspect no one will give Rodgers the control and freedom he expects and his ego will be too big to handle not being the big man on campus.
