What I don't like about the kicking one is it discourages long-range counterattacking, instead promoting looking for space to kick in-behind. And we all know it will end in tries for players wearing no2.

To play devil's, if it extends into international rugby, it's more interfering by NZR to promote rugby suitable to NZXV style of play.

Just to add to those rules being trialed ,they are at the request of WR, any changes to International Rugby need to be implemented by June 2026 to be workable for the 2027 WC.

Well, I've missed Hutchinson... kinda gone "who?".

And I didn't realise Mathis was that tall (1.86m, 6'1").

Dunno why they bother mentioning that Mathis is only wider group, Blackadder will get injured round 1 and Mathis will play round 2.

Optimist. There's a whole preseason to get through.

He could have chosen other players but has focused on young players. Hard to believe that Wrampling will still only be 21 when SR 2026 begins.

Grace is also out until late March,so Mathis will play somewhere along the line.

Few predictions heading into the year

    1. MP to take the loss have Savea hard. Last.

    2. Crusaders to dominate the competition once again. Final to be held at the new Christchurch stadium.

    3. Blues to miss the playoffs.

    4. Highlanders to win more than they lose.

    5. Two Aussie sides to make the top 6.

    6. If Zac Lomax comes across, he will be one of the top try scorers. With Kyren Taumoefolau and Tangitau up in the top 4.

    7. Riley Higgins' injury woes continue. Sadly.

    8. Nathan Hastie plays his way into Wallabies contention.

    9. Samipeni Finau squashes at least four first fives.

    10. George Bell is the standout starting hooker. Codie Taylor's time is primarily managed from the bench.

Just some random thoughts by watching some bazball

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/360913526/numbers-which-super-rugby-franchise-has-most-players-schooled-within-their-region

Van Royen makes the mistake of talking about he population and assuming the Blues have a huge advantage.

The Chiefs region is more populated than people think

2019 population numbers for the franchises:

    Region Population
    Blues 1.396m
    Chiefs 1.333m
    Hurricanes 1.019m
    Crusaders 0.797m
    Highlanders 0.337m

He should make the point about the schools comp attracting outside talent instead

I do think there is an issue with franchise distribution though. 40% of contracts being in the SI and 20% being in Dunedin isn't a good spread

So many mistakes and typos (Fita and Hayden Sa?) in that article. Using where players first went to school is also convenient to have a dig at the Chiefs.

A better analysis would be using SR U18 representation as some players are schooled outside their home region but committed to their local PU.

Yeah listen to the bloke, trying to say that the Blues won't make the playoffs! The disrespect!

That's what you were talking about right?

We all want FAB Riley Higgins on the field. The country needs him. Jackson street needs a new addition to its Walk of Champions too. Just going off previous seasons, he doesn't have a strong history of playing full campaigns.
