This game is shaping up as a bit of a banana skin game for the ABs with the amount of injured players, players coming back from injury, inexperienced, and players flying in late - and most importantly the unpredictable nature of the Pumas.

Add to that , the natural assumption from many that the allblacks will improve this year and the draw is easier than last year , I see this season as a bit of a banana skin if we aren’t careful .

@brodean Banana skin days are long gone. This is a must front up or get embarrassed fixture since 2020.

There should be no complacency, they have beaten us recently

Some of the current squad selections and player management suggest otherwise.

The Argies are big physical boys, and we will rely on speed and skill

Reminds me of a scene from Swingers

When has playing a fullback at centre not worked?

After right wing, it’s his next best position….

@Canes4life good try. But if we had backs that chased and tackled like those in blue and white stripes, they would be called “useless”

He wasn't helped by getting done over by the Hurricanes who continually selected Brad Shields at blindside in preference to him.

More a case of getting our best players on the park at the time, Fifita could play lock aswell and formed a pretty good combination with Fatialofa. He was selected in the ABs as the next 6 after Kaino but I feel like they gave up on him too early. Could have been a weapon if they persisted with him IMO, especially when you compare him to the guys we have now.

From memory Fifita complained about having to play lock at Super level. Came across as a very talented athlete rather than a natural rugby player.

Similar obstacles with James Blackwell in that position.

It’s not going to happen but this seems like a great time for Robertson to try a 6. Vaa’i 7. Savea 8. Finau combination. Sure, the breakdown might be a bit messy. And yeah, Finau hasn’t played at number 8 since 2023 (ahem, against the Western Force).

But the lineout options would be great. And there should be no issue of getting over the gain line. And surely Finau is more of an 8 than he is a lock, and Robertson doesn’t seem to have any qualms of playing him there.

What was it that Scott Robertson said back in July? Oh right:

Was definitely a freak athlete. Should have popped him on the wing.

This is Test footy and those are some big men. Rugby really is pretty simple when you think about it.

I'm quite pleased to hear Razor say this.

Oh right:

The he rolls out Ardie at 8 and Kirifi at 7

@KiwiMurph That part I'm less impressed with.

I'm hoping these are interim measures and not just ushering Rassie into another RWC! 🙂

From memory Fifita complained about having to play lock at Super level. Came across as a very talented athlete rather than a natural rugby player.

Was definitely a freak athlete. Should have popped him on the wing.

@Canes4life He has had a decent career after leaving New Zealand with Wasps, the Scarlets and Tonga but nothing exceptional. I think NZ Rugby got the best out of him.

Apparently he's just joined newly promoted Top 14 side Montauban:
