I think the big take away from the game should be copying how Australia make so many metres through the close channels and the forwards.
Yes. This has annoyed for a while. Vaai, Williams, Sami, Sititi, Savea , Roigard are all good runners.
Instead we get 10 shovelling.
Or a dink.Everytime BB got the ball I found myself screaming "don't kick it!"
Admittedly, the close in game is a lot more viable now Roigard is back from injury.

Its always been a great option in order to lay the foundation for our wide game

@voodoo I'm pleased to see more people seeing what I've been seeing. I'm firmly of the belief if he sat on the pine, half our problems would be resolved.
Agreed
Who is starting? Papalii, Lakai? -

The reffing was random as fuck, and to be honest I reckon he fucked the aussies pretty badly.
I watched the game with a couple of Aussies and on many occasions we were agreeing with them that a decision was a bit rough. Felt strange not to be arguing with them.
But, we've been fucked over by French ref's enough in the past that I don't really mind a square up.
Watching the game with a kiwi mate I pointed out the inconsistency at ruck time within a couple of minutes of each other.
He said "mate don't have sour grapes" so I muttered "Wayne Barnes was right in 2007" and that stopped the conversation

If winning by 9 points is "squeaking past" then we should have handed at least one RWC cup back .
You don't think that refs call on our tryline where we concede a try but not a yellow was influential? Leaving a big decision in the refs hands at the back end of the game is squeaking to me.
Letting them back in after being up 20 3 was super frustrating too
That is a good point but we led all the way.
And I thought Wilson* was lucky not to get a yellow card, he received at least two no arms tackle warnings and he is the captain, he should know that stuff and lead by example.*I'm not saying he performed badly at all, but he was lucky.
So my point is, swings and roundabouts. I didn't hear/ understand the yellow card at the end, and there were plenty of headscratching ref moments both ways.

I've noticed the anti-Roigard captain brigade have gone a bit quiet.
is there one on here? I thought his fans (we fans) were on a very popular bandwagon since the RWC!

Who is starting? Papalii, Lakai? Our 8 needs to be highly skilled, a lineout option and a physical presence. Sititi is not in the form demonstrated on the EOYT in 2024.
I'd be willing to look at Parker at 8 (they're never going to pick Sotutu), with Finau or Vaa'i (even Ah Kuoi) at 6 and Papali'i at 7 as a Cane type player.
No more midgets and no more people avoiding putting a shoulder into rucks.

His defence and ruck work are really poor this year.

It's been mooted it would be beneficial if Roigard took more of a leadership role.
The point is the current leadership isn't really working, too passive and Razor needs to recognise that.
SB is a great player but on field leadership is lacking particularly closing out tight games. On a different note kudos to Razor introducing Carter on the wing , trying Vaai at 6, Proctor 13 and giving Holland a run. We are developing.
Sticking steadfastly with BB at 10 and not giving others much of a run hasn't been a progressive move though. -

On form there's no way he should be in the 23. This isn't a Codie Taylor issue where they're building him back into being a certainty based on years of demonstrated competency.
His form is so bad he can't cover for Ardie's glaring gaps.

That first Australian try really came from a classic de Groot straight to the deck carry. Also, what happened to Vaa'i's accuracy over the last two games?
well he had a knee injury. Not sure for how long. He's had a history of knee troubles.

Anyone got Holland's stats for the game? Seemed to be used as a carrier a lot more effectively in the first quarter.
9 carries, 12 metres made
13 passes
16 tackles -

Agree his form has been poor but we're also setting him up to fail pairing him with Ardie at 7. He'd look a lot better if he had Dalton there instead.
That said, Sotutu is by far the best 8 in the country and ticks all the "Read" boxes - size, power, height, ball playing ability. Fucking NUTS that he isn't in the squad.

.. great distribution..

In my opinion, Tosi should be on the bench as he is an effective ball carrier, a bit like PT, big and abrasive. Lomax has been underwhelming lately so I'd start Newell who is the best scrummager. When the forwards provide front foot ball and when DMac is at first five, the rest of the backline isn't static.
