@KiwiMurph cracking game. Coming back from 16 down in the 4th is nuts.
And going for 2 in OT is just awesome. Big dangling clanking balls and it paid off.

@Catogrande preach.
And I am not pointing fingers. Australia does funny things to boards and coaches. Remember when we picked Ferguson, for debut, in Aus, where he would be needed to bowl long spells ... and he broke down early? I do.
This is where the feeder comps are so important. Every Aus player has to battle to get to the top. Shit fielding doesn't get tolerated and deficiencies generally get exposed. Compare with most national sides - some people get a ride without really having to deliver at the lower levels - so figuring out your game at the top level can happen.
Aus have done this recently and it has not gone well for them. Their comps seem a shadow of what they were - and we see this come out in Super too (to threadjack to Rugby)

@sparky come on mate that survey’s a joke. Tennis FFS. Who they kidding.
Crawley, Pope and Duckett not good enough. And they’re 2 top line bowlers short. That’s about it.
Fielding has been sub-par. Catches win matches and England have dropped too many, too often.
So, aside from batting, bowling and fielding...

England will need someone to go big here, and not to fuck up against Starc (and probably Lyon). So, basically another Aus win.
Damn!

Not saying I'm a supporter of Razor - far from it infact, but I too, would be surprised if he went before the 2027 RWC.
He has a hell of a 2026 season to try and negotiate first.
True. Really is make or break for him.
I'm going over to SA for two tests of the tour next year. There better be an improvement or I might do a van Zyl into the coaching box.
best get eating bro!

The decision review system technology is mandatory in matches played in the World Test Championship, is provided by the host TV broadcaster of the home team.
In this series, the host broadcaster is Fox, which uses BBG Sports to provide Snicko.
In England, Sky Sports uses UltraEdge a French ball-tracking system which enables higher accuracy in review decision.
The review process was protracted, taking well over four minutes,
Overall, Cricket handles replays better than most other sports. But damn. 4 minutes!
Lined up for NZR ... ?
Ahead of the Hammetteur? Surely not!
seriously though, our sports orgs do not seem well governed at the moment. Rugby, Cricket, Netball - basket cases. League has been consistently 'interesting'. Why is this so hard?
@sparky said in Ashes 2025/6:
England used a review, but the technology deployed didn't give sufficient evidence to overturn the on-field decision. So the TMO went with the umpire's decision.
Just like when we had Haddin with a mark on his bat. I mean, that could have come from anywhere.
@MN5 yeah sorry didn't mean to imply Green was part of the fab 4.
Ravindra though? I mean I like him, but he's no Kane dubya.

the new fab four.
speaking of which, Cameron Green hasn't kicked on yet. 33 avg batting, 37 bowling. That's a bit 'oof' for batting in the top 6.
Massive talent but doesn't seem to have put it out there quite yet. Still, he's got paid, so there's that - it wrecked Kyle, maybe it'll get in his head too? NFL see that, where players can drop off once the big payout arrives.
@MN5 hah, I should have said 'bush lawyer' or 'sovereign citizen'. Just slippery generally ... used car salesman? Real estate agent? Insurance salesman?
But yes I agree. Brook is class, can see him getting his eye in and scoring big - probably after the Ashes are lost.

are you a lawyer by any chance?

That’s one of the most bizarre fuck ups jve ever heard of, how can any of the technology used for drs be trusted now?
Snicko isn't used for DRS - except in Australia. Ultraedge has taken over and runs some sort of frequency filter over the waveform to isolate snick sounds. Cricket Australia don't care and want to use Snicko, which is inferior technology.
All this I picked up from online, sounds reasonable, but fucked if I know if it's true or not. Using a wave pass filter seems fairly basic - but then so does syncing audio and video. It's a colossal fuckup for me. Also, given how people get given out elsewhere (including in earlier tests) the optics are terrible.
England will need someone to go big here, and not to fuck up against Starc (and probably Lyon). So, basically another Aus win.
50 overs in 2 sessions is a bit shit, even with a spinner bowling.
Far out. Jacks is a mediocre offspinner who's just getting belted. Poor selection and being treated disdainfully by the Aussies.

@DurryMexted I mean if you put the 'business' spin on it, this guys been running your provincial arm for many years, making good profits, do you make him go work for a competitor overseas to gain further experience before being considered for the top job?
I dont think it is essential, and his CV at the time meant he demanded serious consideration but based on what we have heard since, what did he sell NZR on his vision, 1st year, 2nd and 4 year plan (last one included winning the RWC one assumes)
Where a real world model vs the NZR model part ways, is he gets to bring a team with him, in the business world, these other roles would in most cases be filled already.
IT's more about demonstrating success in various environments. Show that it's his magic that makes a difference, not the frameworks around him. Canterbury and then the Crusaders is a well established structure with clear culture. Does success transfer? Show it! Penney won the comp after a bad year; how much was him and how much was the framework?
