It depends where they see Delany, they will either play Delany at lock and have Flanders at 6, or they’ll play Delany at 6 and have Gallagher at lock. Flanders and Iose will share duties at 8.

Flanders and Shields will also cover 6 if Delany plays lock.

Would've liked to see Delaney at 6 more, but just don't think he plays the right mongrel type game and after Flanders' season am leaning more towards him.

Yeah, technically Delany is a very good player but I agree he might lack the mongrel to be a test 6. I wouldn’t mind seeing him get more time at 6 during Super to prove otherwise though, especially if the Canes see Zach Gallagher as one of their starting locks.

I tend to feel the same about Flanders, I feel like he has a good skill set but lacks a bit of mongrel.

Maybe next year is the coming of age for both of them, both coming into their prime years.

Personally I wouldn’t mind the Canes run with a loose trio of 6. Delany, 7. Lakai and 8. Flanders with Iose and Kirifi as impact.

@Canes4life My impression of Flanders in previous seasons was that he played pretty soft, but he appeared to make improvement this season.

@ARHS how many new caps? 7 that I can think of?

Bell, Tosi, Sititi, Ratima, Love, Lakai & Plummer?

Which in itself isnt bad, but certainly seems many under-used, particularly the last 3.

@MiketheSnow This has been discussed on Exodus for a few days. Good for him, I don't think he was going to get any serious game time in Black while Robertson remains All Blacks coach.

But yes Love has a total of 22 minutes and Plummer has a total of 3 minutes.

                            @KiwiMurph I knew I'd be forgetting some.

So 10, again, is pretty good on one hand, but you would say over half have been massively under used, especially when you look at the aging or out of form players that have sat in front of them.

Most of the minutes for the majority of these other players were against Fiji and Japan. Bell also got a token 1 min in the Ireland game, so what was the point of that? Perofeta wasn't even used in that test.

Beauden must have a good contract that stipulates selection every week.

10 new players, but Sititi is the only one in the starting XV and even then being played out of position to favour the old war horses.

The reluctance to blood new players this year has left me baffled.

Ardie Savea hasn't been any where near as bad as what people have made out.

However after watching the last two Irish games I think you'd have to be having a laugh to pick him at 7 over JVDF.

Whilst Newell is a good scrummager - his scrummaging at test level doesn't seem to generate penalties the way it does at Super.

Given Newell is poor around the field I don't think the trade off is worth it at test level.

Newell is a good cleaner and tackler. Like De Groot and Lomax he offers little to nothing as a carrier.

i feel like the NZ rugby media is trying to gaslight me

Paul Cully did a World XV article today, and put the "consistently excellent" Ardie Savea in it. At openside. The fuck?
He also added Wallace Sititi, which in itself is not a terrible call, but at #8?

Apparently Rob Valetini doesn't exist aye Paul?

i had a discussion with someone this week who insisted "everyone" knows BB has been consistently excellent this year.....i feel like im going insane

Ardie Savea hasn't been any where near as bad as what people have made out.

However after watching the last two Irish games I think you'd have to be having a laugh to pick him at 7 over JVDF.

                                          hard disagree

And the season's MotM polling seems to suggest i am far from alone.

Savea right now has a total of 2 points. For a guy who is the VC, started and played 80 in every test bar Fiji and Japan, and plays in a high profile position, that's about as underwhelming as it gets.
The only loose forward with less points is Ethan Blackadder.
