Anybody here watch "Destination Truth"? I guess I'm a fan 'cos I've seen most of 'em, and enjoy host Josh Gates' sense o' humour.

I watched one the other night where Gates and his team headed to the Rotorua area looking for the Taniwha. Had to laugh when they get attacked by thick swarm of bugs. (What are those bugs? I've seen sandflies pretty bad in Fiordland, but never anything like the airborne infestation that hit Gates in the North Island.)

Gates and a zoologist conclude the mythical (?) Taniwha is most likely a big eel. The episode is available on youtube, coupled with a creepy feature about a ghost mining town in Chile.

There's also a different (most recent, from late April 2010) episode where he goes looking for the Giant Moa.

More here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destination_Truth
Hah, just watched that episode. Had to crack up when they shit themselves in the middle of the night out in the bush when they hear a morepork and think they've stumbled onto something big. Then identify it at the end of the show as a kakapo....great stuff.

Any of you assholes been watching Check it out! With Dr Steve Brule?

The final episode was genius, particularly the conversation about "bears". But who cares anyway, probably just a bunch of honks reading this.

Absolutely Gates has the best job in the world, a couple of his female companions on the show aint too shabby to look at either. (notice how when he does a sweep hes nearly always with them?)
True, that's always funny. It's dark, he's headed into the bush, takes along a cutie, and, uhh, "Hey guys, I'm taking Jael and sweeping the perimeter," heh-heh.

Could be judicious video-editing, but he does seem to be a fairly brave (and possibly stupid!) guy, never seems afraid of a dark hole he won't climb headfirst down into or a third-world airplane held together with bungey-cords, take me over those mountains! He's bonkers, but in a good way.
BBC Crime Drama Luther just finished up over here. Only saw about half of the 6 episodes by fluke but it was really good. If it comes on tele anywhere else I'd highly recommend.
Gotta second that. Caught up with this on the PVR over the last week or so. Awesome 6-parter with Idris Elba. Second series is planned as well

GREAT NEWS! I thought that show was going to be one and done after it disappeared.

Just watched the ESPN doco on the 1995 RWC. Obviously a bad ending but it was a good watch. The series has been excellent
I also enjoyed the latest 30 for 30 episode, The Two Escobars, which covers the lives of Colombian soccer player Andres Escobar (who scored the own goal in the 94 World Cup) and cartel kingpin Pablo and the links between the lives and murders of both, as well as the links between the drug cartels and soccer in Columbia. The 30 for 30 specials have been bloody well done.
Watched that episode last night. It was gripping, epic stuff, one of the best ones so far, IMO worthy of its' own theatrical release.

That was an amazing story, it could have been a Tom Clancy novel if it wasn't already true. I really enjoyed the Knicks vs Reggie one too, I'd forgotten how combative the NBA was back in the day

Anyone catch This Is Not My Life yesterday? It's by one of the people that created Outrageous Fortune (and another Outrageous writer) and stars Charles Mesure (Gerard in Outrageous Fortune and in V). They've got the first two episodes on TVNZ's site, I just started watching the second one, really liking it so far.

Didn't see it in fact didn'ty know it existed until today when I learned that the office is Sovereign Assurance in Takapuna and the town is Omaha. Apparently they wanted somewhere sterile and boring.
