@Dan54 makes you question the quality of the coaching Jordie is getting in NZ.....

I think at this stage Tupaea is who he is - a handy squad option but not sure he ever has the game for anything more - would love to he proven wrong - would not be averse to him as an alternative bench option to ALB or Havili who added very little this year.

I think Jordie needs a Rennie style coach - like when SBW moved to the Chiefs from the Crusaders and improved his game playing a more direct style.

Either Jordie can use his big frame or he can't, I'm unsure at the moment because I'm not sure that's what he's been instructed to do or if he even wants to play that style. Sometimes he looks like he's doing it, then other time he looks as awkward as he used to look at fullback.

and not for a second suggesting its convinced me...but make you think about the idea that players might actually learn something playing overseas, will wait to see if it translates to the black jersey though

I’m not usually one for white knighting either of those two but in their defence there’s been very little opportunity to impress given it’s still January

It's people like you that are enabling the current ABs mediocracy by accepting that having not played for a few months is an excuse for not beating every other country comfortably and with style during that time

I know. At least Jordie is playing at the moment. Those two should be ashamed

I not convinced Jordie was bad as some indicated lest year anyway.. Funnily enough the style he playing doesn't seem to be any more direct, more what's impressed me is his finding people in space to to pass to. He is part of setting up tries etc. Also looks to be talking/ setting defence a fair bit. I thought that was generally a strength of his was being busy on defence, and him and Billy Proctor especially for Canes I thought went well.
Not sure what is coaching etc, or Jordie just maore relaxed in style of Leinster, I not really smart enough to work all that out.
Tend to think maybe @Kiwiwomble has a point, I do suspect players do often gain a bit playing in different style of rugby.

Some mates and I picked him up in a taxi outside the Aviva pre Covid when Corporate had let him down. Shared a few Guinnesses at the Shelbourne.

@canefan thats the question, is leinster playing in a way to allow him to improve....or is the overall quality not as good and so the things that didn't work for the AB's...are working for them

No not seemingly. He hasn't had more room that I noticed, just seems to be timing runs well, or what I have noticed seems real busy, but he finding players running off him, or finding them in space. Can't really put finger on one thing.

@Dan54 makes you question the quality of the coaching Jordie is getting in NZ.....

Are they giving him more space and time to do his thing?

No not seemingly. He hasn't had more room that I noticed, just seems to be timing runs well, or what I have noticed seems real busy, but he finding players running off him, or finding them in space. Can't really put finger on one thing.

It’s because he doesn’t have an epileptic ferret playing inside him. Jordie has been brilliant at Leinster because he’s playing in a functional backline. Get McKenzie and Barrett out of 10 and someone who can actually engage the line AND pass and he’ll flourish, just as he in Leinster.

Come on guys this is just another example of a sub standard NZ player looking a million bucks up north as the quality of rugby is so much poorer up there

You mean a 10 that can make space for his outsides, instead of taking it all for himself?

                                It’s a controversial suggestion I know

@Dan54 makes you question the quality of the coaching Jordie is getting in NZ.....

I not convinced Jordie was bad as some indicated lest year anyway.. Funnily enough the style he playing doesn't seem to be any more direct, more what's impressed me is his finding people in space to to pass to. Come on guys this is just another example of a sub standard NZ player looking a million bucks up north as the quality of rugby is so much poorer up there

Calling Jordie Barrett sub standard is wild. He has his flaws, but so does nearly every rugby player. The ABs issues are primarily at 10. A good first five covers the deficiencies of most sides.

Playing Beauden Barrett probably exaggerated our issues, but we were hardly an all conquering side with McKenzie running the cutter. If you dropped a prime Carter into the ABs last year they probably win a couple of tests they lost.

It may be unrealistic to expect another DC will come along, but at the very least there will be another very good first five come along by the time the Lions Tour comes around, because that is what has happened right through the history of NZ Rugby, and it would be bizarre if the trend did not follow.

That guy isn't McKenzie, nor Plummer or Perofeta. I am not convinced it is a Cam Millar or a Josh Jacomb either. I don't follow the age-grade stuff close enough, but there is bound to be some one come along. Until this happens though, the ABs will remain inconsistent, and our midfield/outside backs will be effected by this.

RM would love to come back for the right $$$ I'm sure. But buying him out is expensive and NZR have no money.

Right decision to not pay, but I am very disappointed at how long this has taken and how much of a distraction this has been in the media. Coaches should be publicly backing their players, not squeezing one out for an overseas player who didn't set the world on fire at Test level.

The media bandwidth doesn’t really have anything to do with the negotiations though. The media are starving for anything that is happening so are writing seemingly useless articles about a faulty standard negotiation process.

Losing Harry Plummer as a 10 option is regrettable especially the way things have panned out with Mounga.
