remember when coaches selected talented players and fixed their weaknesses? Dane Coles developed into a world class hooker with good coaching. We seem to just want to discard people who don't fit our mould at the moment. It's really frustrating.
I wouldn't mind the approach if we had a world class loose forward group that he was trying to break into.
We don't.
There was/is a world class player ahead of him in his position though and whilst said player and the former captain were almost certainties to play 80, there was an opting for versatile bench options that covered other positions.
Not saying it was right or wrong but we have seen this before when Henry was coach and there was a period where Rodders was the only specialist no8 in a squad and there was a versatile Masoe selected.

And how did that work out? Didn't the ABs have some insane stat last year in the Rugby Championship where they couldn't score in the second half/last 20 minutes?

But as has been the case throughout this tournament, the All Blacks fell into an incredible second-half hole and could only add three points to their halftime total. For the fifth straight match in this competition, New Zealand failed to add any points in the final quarter and yet again saw their discipline and finishing drop off considerably. -

An absolute fucking workhorse, but he's not a power runner, or a monster tackler, or a big lineout target - all of which is what we usually want from our 6.

@gt12 I think it's a weekend camp? Hoskins had a 9.30am flight down and a 12.30pm flight back. It involved a medical and chat with the coaches.
So he WAS there albeit just for the morning.

Yep, absolutely - they are both in the volume game. Slightly different in that Blackadder makes more tackles and more carries. Dalton probably hits more rucks, but not by much. Blackadder slightly the better lineout target.
We had McCaw pretty much in that role - while he's obviously of a slightly different standard - which matched up well with power from Kaino and ball running and lineout from Read. Our problem is that if we pair our workers with Savea, the other guy needs to be a power and lineout forward - which Sititi isn't, and Finau hasn't convinced. -
Devan Flanders and Bailyn Sullivan were both at AB camp this week.

@Landers92 I’m a big fan of Flanders and Parker would love to see them at 6 and 8 with someone like Ardie at 7 - just lacking a lot of experience then

Hypothetically, we could resolve our lack of height by playing two taller locks. Barrett is the shorter one, and if he could convert to a decent 6 that would help fix our lineout problems

I would rather see almost anyone play 6, including Vaai and Holland. If Barrett isn't a lock, he's not in the team.

A few of the new faces have definitely impressed in the camp. Whether they get picked or not, who knows but it’s a positive that so many have been able to get in front of the AB coaches for a closer look.

Also heard that day that Jamie Jo is coaching the AB XVs.

He's not a dud, he's okay, in the Sititi, Blackadder, Jacobson, Lakai etc group though.
Not a Finau or Sotutu or Read. -

I agree that it's good to widen the player pool, but there are no AB XV fixtures at this stage. McWhannell will be in the Māori squad.
