@Virgil turns out I was wrong about KW and Rossco, they're in a three way tie for second most wins with another player.....
Our greatest player ever only managed 22 wins in 86 tests which REALLY surprised me.
Care to guess who is first ? ( or cheat and Google it which is surprisingly hard to do )
Top of my head 86 tests sounds like Hogan?
if so he did play the bulk of his career at some of our lowest points. Late 80's to early 90's we were pretty shit.. -

ahhh paddles, i knew Crowe played around the same number of tests. Actually less, 77.
There were alot of draws in the 80's too. Not just us but other sides too
India and Pakistan famously played out 12 or 13 draws in a row around then too. -

But it was worse prior to that. Bert Sutcliffe is one of those old timers with a very good record, in the discussion for a greatest NZ XI of all time and he didn't manage a single test win in 42 attempts !!!! ( 23 losses and 19 draws )

Tragic news. Use of helmets has made a massive difference in the game, but I guess no 100% guarantees.

Looking at our test results by decade, easy to see why Hadlee and Crowe etc didnt experience so many wins
1930s and 1940s - 20 Tests
Won 0, Lost 6 , Drew 141950s - 32 Tests
Won 1, Lost 21, Drew 101960s - 43 Tests
Won 6, Lost 18, Drew 191970s - 41 Tests
Won 3, Lost 19, Drew 191980s - 59 Tests
Won 17, Lost 15, Drew 271990s - 81 Tests
Won 17, Lost 32, Drew 322000s - 80 Tests
Won 23, Lost 32, Drew 252010s - 83 Tests
Won 32, Lost 31, Drew 202020s - 41 Tests
Won 22, Lost 15, Drew 4Easy to see our most successful periods and where we were the shittest.
surprised at how few draws there have been the past 5 or 6 years. -

surprised at how few draws there have been the past 5 or 6 years. That's the changing face of Cricket. You can thank the awesome Australian team of the early 2000s for helping usher that in, no coincidence five legends of that era are in the top ten.
Pointing alone has WON damn near almost as many tests as Vettori played. That is incredible.
The great Viv Richards had a win rate of just over 50% ( 63 from 121 ) so even the all conquering team of that era had to contend with Cricket being played at a slightly more leisurely pace with loads of draws.

We were seriously shit at cricket for a very long time.
Winning any tests at all was a bit af a miracle.
Until the 86 tester arrived.Gilchrist really did change the way test match cricket was played.

Paddles is our GOAT and I suspect he will still hold that mantle when KW retires albeit by a slim margin.
But given how many others have won off the top of my head I would have put his wins at 35-40 or so.
Again, Rose tinted glasses to some extent.

I get sooo much schadenfreude when the Aussies lose a big game.
Especially the girls; they are even more full of it than the guys.
Some more of that this weekend would be very nice.Good effort by India to turn us over - they were a long time between CWC victories in either format over Australia, England, South African, and even dud teams like NZ.
Couldn't last forever

Cut and pasted from FB
Did you know today is 40 years since Sir Richard Hadlee MBE took 9/52 against Australia at the Gabba. He also took a catch to get the other wicket off the bowling of Vaughan Brown. He also scored 54 with the bat and ended up taking 15 wickets in the test match. It was New Zealand’s 1st test win on Australian soil. Sir Richard Hadlee ended up taking 33 wickets in the 3 match test series as NZ defeated Australia 2-1.
It is regarded as one of the greatest performances by a fast bowler.
Sir Richard Hadlee was named NZ sportsman of the 1980’s, sportsman of the year in 1980 and 1986 and was NZ joint sportsperson from 1962 to 1987 alongside legendary middle distance runner Sir John Walker.
Since he retired he has been NZ chairman of selectors, mentored fast bowlers and was part of the reformed Cricket NZ Board from 2013 to 2017. We will discuss Cricket NZ board reforms later this month.
Sir Richard Hadlee MBE is the greatest NZ cricketer of all time, their most influential person and his family is Cricket NZ most influential family in their 95 year history.

Love the fact that both the highest individual test innings and best bowling performance in Australia by a visiting team are both kiwis.

Ross Taylors 290 I'm assuming ? Woulda thought someone might have scored a cheeky 300 at some stage......
Will just tag @NTA so he notices.

Cheers. Good on him for getting so close. Better luck next time!
I seem to remember that Test as being one of the nails in the reputation of the WACA wicket as a bowler's paradise.

Yup that is correct, legendary innings from Roscoe
Not bad records for a dud team aye @NTA -
Cricket is a funny game.
That series vividly shows if you have one legend on top of his game, some very good players and the journeymen at least chip in a bit here and there then great things can happen.
Very similar to how England, Pakistan and India were reliant on Beefy, Imran and Kapil respectively.
