If they fire Razor it will be another uncomfortable first. I don't expect it even though he deserves it
Does anyone have inside goss on the KPIs they gave him?
-
The question they have to ask is whether Razor can successfully turn this around. One issue he faces, is the need to move on a nucleus of the squad he has trusted for his first two years, including changing his captain.
From a man management point of view, to keep other players on side, it is way easier for a new coach to do that.
-
I don't think changing a captain is a big deal if the captain isn't actually doing anything much and doesn't seem to interact with the team, his own team.
-
The big question for me is, are they going to set a precedent and fire Surf Jesus? Even in the horror year of 1998 John Hart kept his job. Of course he was probably still dining out on the 1996 series win. If they don't fire Razor, or force him into serious changes of his coaching team, the SA tour next year could be a bloodbath

Money aside, I think this is a little different to Foster. Possibly easier to just sweep house then trying to make this regime work.
Speaking of money... three of our most washed/unused players are some of the highest paid on NZRU's books - Beauden, ALB and Rieko.

Someone should be fired for those contracts

A lot of players have gone backwards this year. e.g. Taueki'aho, Williams, Ratima.
A lot of duds selected. Certain very good players ignored.
Poor coaching, biased selections, low intelligence setup.
Taueki'aho has been disappointing for more than just this year, and Ratima I think played above himself last year ( he petered out last year) and has probably reverted to type. I will concede Williams.
Ratima's deterioration in performance last year, and continuation of that this year coincide somewhat suspiciously with a change in selection at 10.

To move on Scott Barrett, Beauden Barrett, Anton Lienert-Brown and potentially Ardie Savea is way easier said than done from a team dynamics point of view. That's your captain, his deputy, your most capped player, and a guy who I imagine holds a lot of mana in the dressing room.

I fear we will have to suffer through more pain until a poor RWC27 campaign. Only then will the NZR clear the decks after massive damage has been done to the "brand"

Not getting the ball out of a retreating scrum was doing my head in.

@frugby said in All Blacks 2025:
@reprobate That is letting off Ratima way too lightly... generally the 10s performance is linked to the halfback, not the other way around.
Oh look he's to blame for a lot of his own mistakes, but it does go both ways. Things like e.g. BB's kicking makes us heavily reliant on Roigard's kicking - Ratima's is not as good, so he gets exposed more if he's paired with a 10 who can't kick.

Interested in why many seem to be suddenly down on Carter. Is it just the missed tackle?
The missed tackle was crap but I like that dudes attitude.

As McCaw sort of said, "It's going to be a shit summer"

low intelligence setup
New Zealanders, who aren't typically high IQ these days, accept this level of mediocrity I suspect in part because of horse face's decree of "be kind". The expectation of a baseline of performance based on previous results has disappeared - now a loss is accepted if it comes with the requisite highlight reel of we tried but they were good eh? But we got some learnings
The big difference between Razor and Foster is one of them got them assistants they wanted to begin with. For a loose forward who played for the All Blacks, his selections are the epitome of acquired brain injury; leaving out the best performing of the next highest level for donkeys. And then ensuring they don't get adequate time in specific positions to develop.

Yeah and we'd be struggling for a 23 if we ditched players for missing crucial tackles.

Yeah Leroy Carter is this years Braydon Ennor now to be fair

For mine, Proctor has been the letdown of the year, and is not worth persisting with.
Tavatavanawai and Fainga'anuku both lack the top line pace to be starting wingers, and lack the direction to be your starting centre, but they are the ideal players to have on the bench to provide punch.
ALB is done, and needs to be moved on. Ioane is also past his best, but is our best defensive centre currently available. I'd be looking at him and Brayden Ennor, who should have been brought back into the fold for this end of year tour.
We got rid of the best defensive centre to accommodate one who looked great at Super Rugby level on attack, not realising that the patterns were obviously different at their respective levels for different teams.
Lo and fucking behold with the abysmal attack structure the All Blacks run, his "upsides" were non-existent and his downsides were magnified. Then the "brains trust" put in players whose body of work "both side of the ball" were clearly worse and we're wondering why things are going wrong.
This goes to my previous point that New Zealanders appear to be fucking retarded now with them all going "but Rieko doesn't pass" ignoring when he got all those try assists...
