Why do i need overseas experience? I spent time over there as a player!' He lost me right there. Did he think he'd walk into international rugby thinking the opposition was the same level as the Waratahs and Force or something?

He was probably believing all the crap his fanboi's were posting in the media and rugby forums

@Victor-Meldrew I'm optimistic but Kirk. I think he's very able and quietly ruthless. Hopefully, he'll get rid of the bullshitters and the duffers in NZR one by one.

That said I was optimistic about Scott Robertson and look how that turned out.......

In my experience, when a Chairman starts talking about the need for optimal processes and refers to specific ones, it generally bodes well.

Might be cheaper contract buy-out wise to give JJ or Joe the Assistant (i.e head ) coach gig and keep Coach Jesus on as de facto media manager

Yes I suggested that earlier. He wants to be a figurehead? Then make it so. And pick someone to rebuild the locker room

NZR should've kept the RWC 23 team.

In hindsight, yes. But the public would have lynched NZR such was the Razor-mania

If they hadn't made their decision early they might have pulled it off on the back of our narrow finals loss. I expect NZR were party to the Razor fluffy fest so they made their own bed

    We are in trouble folks.

This from Kirk is encouraging. Sounds like he knows what he's doing.

“We’re not in the business of having sub-optimal processes. We would certainly seek to avoid that type of process in the future. I would very much hope not, certainly when I’m the chair.”

How are you getting these quotes? Is there a full transcript on site that I don't know about?

    It the article Tim posted.

I couldn't read it coz it was paywalled. Or can I???

    Archive is your friend.

This is the sentence which stands out and I don't think has been quoted yet.

But it feels now like the people voted for a President who has handed the keys of office to the unelected Vice-President, without a mandate to do so.

I read the whole thing. Pretty bleak. What David Kirk does now will be massive

That's a fascinating article - confirms a lot of what has been suspected.

Mainly that Mark Robinson has a lot to answer for. That simpleton has singlehandedly ruined NZ rugby.

Not just Mark Robinson. Scott Robertson knew exactly the snake-oil he was peddling to NZR - and amplified it by threatening to coach another country if he didn't get the gig.

Been prepared to support him as I've never believed all the problems were down to the head coach (unlike many), but if that article is right, he needs to go right now for deliberately misleading people..

I am not sure he did think he was selling snake oil - let alone that he knew he was. I just don't think he's that smart. I think he genuinely believes in his own genius. Dunning-Kruger Effect in full effect.

As an aside, I love the upholding of the fairly new tradition in 4/5 with names. Pakeha guy in the second row? White lock. Dutch guy at lock? Holland.

    6.5/10 for 2025

#10 Clearly a wasted opportunity persisting with BB this year.

    4/10 and that's being generous.

Big changes are needed over the summer.

    Okay, positives:

Holland's taken to Test Rugby like a duck to the wet stuff.
Jordie Barrett came back from Europe with an extra edge to his game.
    Cam Roigard is world class.
    Our Hookers are excellent.
DMac did well when he had game time. So did Caleb Clarke between injuries. So did Patrick Tuipolutu.
    We have the Bledisloe. (Still).
Eden Park is a Fortress. (Still).
Wallace Sititi after being shaky for much of the year finished well.
In ranking terms, we are 2 in the world even if I think the Springboks, England and France are all comfortably better than us.

    Over to you Mr Kirk.

Do what needs to be done, or are you a waste of a salary too?

Negatives (these are going to be longer):

We got humped royally by the Boks.
We got humped royally by the Poms.
Argentina give us a bit of a kicking.
We weren't convincing once. Our best performance all year was Perth and was a 7/10.
We don't look like a side that will challenge at the next World Cup.
We didn't win the Rugby Chmapionship.
We didn't do the Grand Slam.
    Our defence is appalling.
    Our captain has minimal influence.
We've started an aging and poor First Five for most of the year.
    We're terrible in the air.
    Our attacking structure isn't great.
    Our defensive structure is poor.
    Our discipline is terrible.
Ardie Savea has become a one or two miracle plays a game player.
Cortes Ratima isn't up to it.
The Simon Parker experiment didn't work.
Nor did the Billy Proctor one.
We didn't develop a new First Five.
Ruben Love wasn't given enough gametime.
Our best 7, Dalton Papalii, has been out of the squad for most of the year.
We go missing for large parts of games.

    In a word, unsatisfactory.

    To boldly go.....?

Seriously, ask the right questions and find out what the actual problems are - not what we think they are.

Let's not repeat the mistake of blaming it all on the coach - not that I'm defending the useless twat.
