For all we've been shit, I think the backs problems are basically solved if we jettison BB. It does mean new things to iron out, as McKenzie is not the complete package at 10 yet

I do wonder if we judge every 10 compared to Dan Carter, every 7 to McCaw (I know Ireland do), and every 12 to Nonu but regardless, I'd argue we have woefully undertested depth at 10, and the example of Beaver should have been imprinted on the coaches' respective foreheads. What was he, option/alternative number 5? And for all the criticism, he was at least tested at AB level beforehand...

@nostrildamus Cruden, Barret, McKenzie and Mo'unga are the only 10s that have been blooded since Donald (who debuted 17 years ago) that currently have more caps than him prior to his 2011 appearance.

The last out and out 10 that debuted was Josh Ioane in 2019 (for one cap). Absolutely crazy.

Got about 20 caps - a couple fewer than Donald had in 2011.

No Mr Holland, your best learnings is to never ever ever use that term again.
Thank you. That would be Fab.

                https://www.rugbypass.com/news/scott-robertson-discusses-his-future-leading-the-all-blacks/

" I think Scott’s rugby IQ is as good as I’ve ever come across, he’s an exceptional reader of the game, his ability to understand the intricacies, and he’s got people to rely on like his vice captains and on field drivers that we do a lot of work with.

“But he is unique, he’s someone that can push a scrum, call a line out, make 20 tackles, barge rucks, and still make calls and be with the referee, and he’s done a really good job, so we monitor all that."

                😂😂😂

                We are screwed

Half the problem right? How many 10s started how many tests for NZ since 2019? Not many I'd say

                              Another damning stat:

The experienced Sky Sport commentator explains that an interesting stat around the All Blacks is to do with their counter attacking efficiency, which has declined in 2025. “I’ll give you one interesting stat, which to me, underlines that become quite conservative this group. Last year, the All Blacks scored 12 tries from counter attack. This year, they’ve only scored one and does that mean that they are just not taking risks anymore.

We don't tend to generate a lot of turnovers any more (see the loose forward mix. see the passive defense)

and where a huge point of difference for us before was how we would ruthlessly exploited bad kicks. Now? One pass max or more likely we kick it back to them, often poorly.

and where a huge point of difference for us before was how we would ruthlessly exploited bad kicks. Now? One pass max or more likely we kick it back to them, often poorly.

Bad coaching. The players often appear confused

                                    Let’s start from the back

                                    Love, Jordan, Clarke

Can Jordan & Clarke defy the 27 club curse and be valid options at Wing for the next 2 years?

As an aside.......People are calling for Nanai Seturo who turns 27 next August.

For fullback. I like Love and JRK but they cant defend for sh1t.

                                    Love should focus on 10.

Ens is a better fullback than Jordan.

The only time we look ok on attack without looking at stats , and I’m not sure what the difference is , is when we have possession inside the 22 . Give us the ball there we are probably as good as anyone.

But further up the field we are terrible, lots of passes for very few line breaks or gaining territory, then resort to a terrible kick

The Herald has spoken to several high-profile Kiwi coaches based overseas, who say that while they love their country and want teams in black to win on the world stage, they have no interest in coming home because they don’t believe the high-performance system is operating at best-practice levels, and they don’t trust NZR to consistently make good decisions around coaching and management appointments.

Some coaches have said they fear NZR has become dismissive of what it could learn and borrow from other countries and that it has shut itself off entirely from the rest of the world, which is partly why they say the All Blacks’ defensive and attacking patterns are outdated and ineffective.

                                        Thats a grim, deflating read.

                                        We are in trouble folks.

Big trouble. We have Scott Hansen coaching the side with Razor doing the pilates side of things and have to tour the republic for 4 fucken tests next year!

One thing that really annoyed me about the 3 part Razor wankfest run by Jim Kayes was when he was extremely dismissive about getting experience overseas and said something along the lines of 'Why do i need overseas experience? I spent time over there as a player!' He lost me right there. Did he think he'd walk into international rugby thinking the opposition was the same level as the Waratahs and Force or something?

I really think we make too much of saying you need international experience.

Sure test rugby is different but its still rugby. The laws are the same, the quality increases but who shouldnt be shocked at test rugby is different than super rugby

Funnily enough Grubs, one Sam Whitelock said he thought the assistant coaches weren't experienced enough at test level rugby in his book. I also remember Ryan saying when the Crusaders had a really tough game coming up and he made comment it will be test match intensity, Whitelock told him he was talking bullshit, no comparison he said. Not sure if Sam had enough experience to know?

" I think Scott’s rugby IQ is as good as I’ve ever come across, he’s an exceptional reader of the game, his ability to understand the intricacies, and he’s got people to rely on like his vice captains and on field drivers that we do a lot of work with.

“But he is unique, he’s someone that can push a scrum, call a line out, make 20 tackles, barge rucks, and still make calls and be with the referee, and he’s done a really good job, so we monitor all that."

@akan004 from that same article; "Personally, yeah, being in 32 hotels and going around the world a few times, but I think what’s required of me every week, how do I set the group up, the management group, the team, we talk about being all in, we talk about serving our jersey on the field and our people off the field, so how can I shape and bring the legacy along with us.

“I feel like I’ve made a real connection to that piece and personally, how can I get those simple messages across to the group? Look, I said before, it’s fine margins, and there’s a lot of expectations that come with it. So how can you refine your messages so the boys are clear and then just go and play and trust themselves.

“I feel like I’ve got a lot better in that regard.”

                                          He's fucking delusional.
