I hear SA are digging their heels in over Brown,it might not be an easy contract to break..
Lancaster had a chat to O'Gara, informal I was told.

Does this mean TB is exploring whether he can get out of his contract?

    I hear he is keen.

Sport Nation reckons he has a clause in his contract that states if JJ is AB coach he can be released.

That sounds like a really out there clause.

I dont think so at all. It makes perfect sense

    Has Ralph ever coached?

Hammer has a track record of coming in and sorting out cultural issues, I am not saying he is the long term solution but he is a great short term band aid.

    Canes fans say "Fuck. That."

Given what we’ve learned, I think it’s important to look back on individual player performances the last 2 years and not be too critical…. as we were in real time.

Yes, the sand has run through the hourglass for half a dozen of them and they should move on. But for the younger ones, and those with plenty in the tank - If these guys were struggling in a dysfunctional culture, clashes over tactics and concerns about their team-mates then it’s bound to be reflected in their performance.

On the other hand, the fact that they achieved some decent results despite this bodes well.

I have faith that we have decent cattle, and we can quickly do significantly better with improved systems, improved accountability and unity, and rational selection

I agree. And credit to Robertson's coaching team that we have some exciting new players on board.

We still need to fix the 6/7/8 combo and develop options at 10 but the basics are there if we can just fix the inconsistency. It's a tough year Test-wise, but that could be a motivating factor and also take some pressure off the team and new coaching set-up.

I've always argued that while a loss is horrible, if it provides a genuine learning experience and is part of development, we should live with it.

EDIT: No criticism whatever of Scott Barrett as he did hid best in what was clearly a bad environment, but would give him the opportunity to give the captain's armband to someone else. He never really looked at home and sense he'd be a better player not being captain.

So Joseph and Tony Brown have been spotted in Wanaka over the last couple of days . Perhaps they are just having a catch-up.

It still feels like a massive longshot that he ever gets the gig again though.

Won't happen. His supposed strengths are the very reason he got booted. This wasn't a case of not having unfamiliar skills - it's a complete grotesque failure of the very thing he was supposed to be best at.

It really puts into perspective the success the Crusaders setup has had .

Know it's unfair, but I have this nagging feeling NZR were conned.

I can see that argument, but what explains his success at the Crusaders?

Surely the guys that played under him there - Whitelock, S Barrett, Taylor in particular - would not have stood for him if he was a genuine conman?

Not sticking up for Razor here - the guy is clearly an intellectual midget with an over-inflated ego and looking at his AB stint in isolation, it's clear there's a bit of the chancer about him - but I just don't see how a genuine conman gets away with it for 7 years.

The other possible reason is, current Super Rugby isn't that much of a challenging competition.

He definitely did that and fucked them over in the process. Don't think the ABs need any more fucking over culture wise.

Apologies if this has been asked, but if the ABs were rated #1 in the world instead of #2, does the fern think he still would have been canned? Has this happened because a NZ coach (TB) is assisting Nzeds biggest rival and Kirk et al are thinking this is a genius move? Word is that it wasn't a player revolt so one has to think it’s because the ABs are not number one.
Or is this shake up because NZ rugby as a whole is in a shambles and Razor has effectively been the scapegoat?

Think one of the Cantabs on here said that Robertson had a falling out with Brad Mooar? Any other coaches he had major problems with? Seems we are up to three now.

According to Brad what happened is that he didn't agree with the culture Razor set (barbecues at Razors every Sunday with heavy drinking) and made that known.

If you ask razor or any of his supporters at crusaders hq what happened they will say it's because Mooar was a shit coach.

Apparently the call was 100% Razors to sack him anyway.

Not everyone in chch is a Razor fan. He's really milked that reputation as the "prince of Sumner" and acted like a fucking dick at times.

I think many of us agree with Kirk that it is the trajectory. I care about the RWC not so much about world rankings but I don't speak for the board. Then again some people here mentioned sponsors so maybe that is a factor?

Getting Tony Brown or a decent attack coach longterm is more important than short-term shafting the Saffers. But that's not a bad little bonus.

No, seems directed towards Razor and his coaching team.

Forget about the rankings. We didn't have one complete performance that as a supporter I was proud of last season, and many disgraceful ones. At the core of the problem was the coaching team, their poor relationship with the players and their shoddy selection. Tony Brown isn't that valuable to blow up the ABs for

It's come off the back of the review, which has massive input from players. I'm not sure how that translates to "oh it must be because SA are top of the rankings".

We aren't playing like a top 3 side at the moment, let alone the top side.

Yep I'd put us behind SA, France & England right now.

The question should really be: Would the ABs be ranked No.1 if Robertson hadn't had very negative feedback from players and support staff?

Would Horner still be at redbull if Max won the championship?
