I think Tana would be an interesting assistant - felt like he really found his niche there at the Blues when he took a step back.

Think one of the Cantabs on here said that Robertson had a falling out with Brad Mooar? Any other coaches he had major problems with? Seems we are up to three now.
According to Brad what happened is that he didn't agree with the culture Razor set (barbecues at Razors every Sunday with heavy drinking) and made that known.
If you ask razor or any of his supporters at crusaders hq what happened they will say it's because Mooar was a shit coach.
Apparently the call was 100% Razors to sack him anyway.
Not everyone in chch is a Razor fan. He's really milked that reputation as the "prince of Sumner" and acted like a fucking dick at times.
I do remember you being quite critical of Razor before he took the Crusaders gig many years ago now and you did make comment back then about his poor communication with fringe players despite results being very good at NPC level and obviously his success at Super level which you did give him credit for, but yeah, the poor communication part obviously reared its ugly head again the moment he stepped out of the Canterbury region.
-
And together he and Ardie did wonders for MP and by default, the comp. And Tana is open to innovation e.g., Tomasi Savage.

Apologies if this has been asked, but if the ABs were rated #1 in the world instead of #2, does the fern think he still would have been canned? Has this happened because a NZ coach (TB) is assisting Nzeds biggest rival and Kirk et al are thinking this is a genius move? Word is that it wasn't a player revolt so one has to think it’s because the ABs are not number one.
Or is this shake up because NZ rugby as a whole is in a shambles and Razor has effectively been the scapegoat?I think it's less about NZ Rugby as a whole, and more that the All Blacks themselves were a complete shambles by their long term standards.
I've commented probably a few times now - Razor should have been sacked after the night of the Wellington loss to the Springboks.
Not because they lost, but because All Black sides simply do not give up with 20 minutes to go in a game of rugby.
The win percentage sometimes commented on is a red herring. The All Blacks could be selected, enter a game week with no coaches, and ordinarily should still win a moderate-ish percentage, given some of their schedules.
I'm not defending Razor here but what about the actual players that gave up? If you just stop trying in a match isn't that more so your fault then the coach?
It just seems like the players are coddled in this sense.

Several of them probably should have been sent packing for a while too. Which comes back to the coach/selectors too... and it may have helped their cause.
Long run, the All Blacks have almost never had a culture of clocking out. It's cliche words in some ways, but to me, that's what makes them the All Blacks and not just any rugby team.

.
True. Razors approach to selections were strange to say the least. Just seemed to pick the same players over and over. Never did understand why he was not more brave in his selections and after all that still lost his job.I just see SBW call for Ardie to be skipper and don't buy it. He wants his coach to be his best mate.

bullaI saw some Harlequins fans commenting on Reddit yesterday that they’d like him to come to their club, and it was also mentioned by a Ferner yesterday that Quins were mentioned.

SBW social media post reported in RNZ.
“This is just my honest thoughts and opinion, but I think we need a coaching group that knows how to connect before correcting. Because these players know how to play and we do have the squad," he said. Williams name-dropped Jamie Joseph, Tony Brown, Dave Rennie and Tana Umaga as potential heirs to Robertson”
He also called for Ardie to be made captain.
Tana is a potential for the new coaching team I haven’t seen suggested/discussed here as yet, unless I missed something?

Maybe professional sport is different to every other profession, but any successful work place I’ve worked in or encountered has had the mantra of fit in for fuck off. I’m sure that applies to coaches as well but connecting too much means too many chefs in the kitchen

Yeah, Razors coaching group appears to have been horrendous communicators but you probably don't want to go too far in the other direction like it's group therapy.
You don't have to be best mates with your coaches, tbh don't even have to like each other, just be able to work effectively together.

On that note as was mentioned a few months back Richie McCaw didn't even try and get personal with teammates, asking how their wives were etc. He liked to keep it all professional as per Kieran Read.

Fairly biting remakes from Smith. Not saying I agree it was a bad decision, but interesting nonetheless
The win percentage is a red herring.
DMAC twinkle toes away from losing to Scotland.
Harsh red against Beirne in Chicago changed that game. (Beirne was Lions player of the series)
George ford hit post with a pen and fluffed a drop goal to win in Twickenham in 2024.
Beat France C 34-27 AT HOME.
The Boks beat us by 33, we beat them by 4. (Ardies last minute turnover in our own 22 saved a loss).
Beat Australia 31-28 in the 2024 Bledisloe.
Beat England by 1 point in his first match. We went life and death with everyone (even when we won), and under Razors tenure shipping 20 points became the norm. In our losses it was quite often 30+.
It was squeaky bum time every fucking Saturday.

@W32 this exact same thing, by all accounts this is probably more to do.with off field as it is performance and the bigger picture, selection, growth, development.
I see plenty of off shore pundits are looking at his win % and questioning the decision.
The 3 games against France B inflate this. Our % against the top sides is not good and I suspect the board considered this.

For me that's sufficient evidence that the benefit of Wayne's presence has exhausted itself. He's tainted as a mentor by the outcome of the review when he fixates on the winning percentage and not the manner of the play on the field.
He may be a nice guy who genuinely feels for Razor, but he's also the person who said it's what the stats don't tell you you see for yourself.

if the ABs were rated #1 in the world instead of #2, does the fern think he still would have been canned?
Difficult to determine, and a moot point. I kind of think yes as the KPI that failed IMO was not results. If the team was not dysfunctional the results would likely be better.
Has this happened because a NZ coach (TB) is assisting Nzeds biggest rival and Kirk et al are thinking this is a genius move?
Irrelevant
Word is that it wasn't a player revolt so one has to think it’s because the ABs are not number one.
See above.
Or is this shake up because NZ rugby as a whole is in a shambles
Contributing factor.
and Razor has effectively been the scapegoat?
No. There were specific reasons for his removal.
