Just watched an interview with Bruce Arians (HC Tampa Bay SB 21) about NFL head coach interviews.
    He's done a few.

From what I got out of it . . .

The most important question you get is who your staff/assistants are going to be.
Second comes your plan, in comprehensive detail.
Then comes expectations; what results are acceptable.

Stuff like about coaching "philosophy" is of no interest, and considered BS. Keep it for your book.

I sense Cotter would be make shift through to the World Cup only if they did appoint him. Not saying that’s a bad thing either

Honestly, the more i think about it the more i think Cotter is the ideal short term (2026 & 27) appointment.

Seems like a hard nose, no bullshit bloke who will get buy in and be able to shore things up. He's been around the block, knows international rugby, been in some tough coaching situations before.

He's not a sexy pick but he might be the right guy for this time and place.

Cotter and Schmit would be my ideal with JJ there with a view to taking over after WC27, but if Joe not available Rennie is just as capable.
These are the ideal for now and our best bet to turn things around asap

See now you making it hard lol. Although I hadn't had Cotter in my thoughts, I agree, I would be happy with him too. So now I have to admit to being happy with any of Cotter, Joseph or Rennie.
Make me think perhaps we not too bad off in coaching.

Devlin saying he's heard that Hansen could stay, if this is the case, maybe he wasnt part of the problem in the reviews?

Hansen is in charge of the tactics and attacking structure. Fail.

Yeah,.if Razor is gone i don't see how anyone else keeps their job based on merit, with the possible, possible exception of Jason Ryan..

Regardless, it feels like this is the opportune moment to clean house and start from scratch. Why carry anything over from the razor era when you can just start over with no baggage?

Well Hansen was one of Joseph's assistants with Japan.

It doesn't seem to me like NZR are going for a fast appointment. We might not have a new Head Coach in place until May or June.

Meanwhile, someone needs to keep an eye on the players and do mid-season 1-2-1s. My guess is that is why Hansen and Ryan are still in post.

But a new Head Coach will be free to appoint their own assistants and will probably do so.

Yep I would agree, if it actually right. See I also read that Holland was attack too, I can't see how an assistant coach could be in charge of tactics, and if he was perhaps he should just do what he is good at? Still think there were too many coaches with those jobs and perhaps just streamlining them is the answer.
Not suggesting he should or shouldn't be there , just don't know who or what was problem.

I see your point. Way better to be thorough and diligent in the hiring process.

Theres only one massive stumbling block with that - how is someone appointed that late going to be able to prep and be ready for an 8 match tour of SA? The logistics alone strike me as being a big challenge. It's very last minute.

I guess it comes back to what the reviews said about Hansen as to whether he is able to be retained, similarly Ryan, whos body of work is mixed, good under Foz/Scmidt, poor under Razor.

You'd hope the new HC would have some input into the decision.

Imagine logistics is managed by a dedicated team.

Actually think a tough year could be a positive. Less pressure for the new coach after the Coach Jesus fiasco and the players will have something to prove.

@nonpartizan The SA tour is going to be an enormous challenge for any new Head Coach, but I'd rather have a world-class coach we have to wait a bit for, than a rushed and substandard appointment.
