Looking for a no-nonsense hard-nosed coach who can turn the forward pack into some ruthless swines?

Won’t wear out his welcome because he’s only gonna be in the job 18-months before Tony and JJ take the mantle?

International, club and NH experience. Highly motivated due to being unfairly moved on by one of the ABs biggest rivals?

    You know who it is.

And oh yeah, he won a World Cup.

Actually think a tough year could be a positive. Less pressure for the new coach after the Coach Jesus fiasco and the players will have something to prove.

It'll harden the players for everything to come after too, making them hungry and determined to prove something. An easy year could leave them comfortable, with a lack of edge.

That won’t wash if he’s actively contributed to a toxic culture/losing the confidence of the playing group.

Should def. be judged on his coaching ability but one of the rumours was Hansen was taking players' concerns to Robertson, but they ended up in a black hole. It true, seems to indicate he was at least trying to sort things out and doing his best, but we'll never know.

You'd hope the new HC would have some input into the decision.

His point being is JJ worked with Hansen in Japan.

Theres only one massive stumbling block with that - how is someone appointed that late going to be able to prep and be ready for an 8 match tour of SA? The logistics alone strike me as being a big challenge. It's very last minute.

I think they should drop some matches. Very worried about injuries this close to an RWC.

Tony Brown was reported in an online article about being very frustrated with NZR two years ago, that nobody talked to him.

Kirk said the trajectory wasn't good enough.
Razor said Hansen did the coaching.
    Ergo, Hansen must go.

Well I just couldn't listen to more than 5 minutes of that voice.

@nostrildamus too be clear, im not suggesting he shouldnt...just speculating what he might have said to keep his job

the only other thing i could possibly understand is waiting for a new HC to decide who he wants so they dont have to pay them out only to rehire them

Combined with the fact one of the leading candidates worked with Hansen in the past + Ryan has worked with multiple regimes now - that's exactly what it is

Cotter is turning 64 next week..I really liked what he did with the Blues as well but he might just not want the pressure of HC. But a HC of Rennie or Joseph with Cotter as forwards coach* and someone like O'Gara** as attack/backs coach might not be so bad.
*I didn't mind Ryan at all.
**I have, no doubt, a hot take that I'm the only one who's intrigued to see what Carlos Spencer could do (praised by Plumtree for what it's worth). But then I think we don't need more mercuriality at 10..

Henry was 65 when he won his 2nd RWC.

I dont think age is a barrier, the coaches desire is...sure Cotter might think fuck yeah, I'll take it onthrough to end of RWC, then plan for JJ & Brown to take over....what if he wins and thinks, fuck yeah, this is good shit, really enjoy it, wanna stay at the helm for longer...

Yeah - imagine if they’d paid out Hansen for example and then JJ or whoever wanted to keep him. They couldn’t make the decision on the assistants at the same time.

I sense Cotter would be make shift through to the World Cup only if they did appoint him. Not saying that’s a bad thing either

Honestly, the more i think about it the more i think Cotter is the ideal short term (2026 & 27) appointment.

Seems like a hard nose, no bullshit bloke who will get buy in and be able to shore things up. He's been around the block, knows international rugby, been in some tough coaching situations before.

He's not a sexy pick but he might be the right guy for this time and place.

See now you making it hard lol. Although I hadn't had Cotter in my thoughts, I agree, I would be happy with him too. So now I have to admit to being happy with any of Cotter, Joseph or Rennie.
Make me think perhaps we not too bad off in coaching.

The most important thing that needed to be done has been done.

It has to be ruthless from the top down.

Whoever gets the gig going forward now has the spectre of being sacked mid tenure hanging over them.

A couple of players need to be shown the door too, to show the guillotine can reach the grass.

Lol if that's the case, they may as well have bloody kept Razor!

Maybe his breakdancing wasn't up to standard?
