Does that put paid to any rumours JJ had already been shoulder tapped into the role?
For me, it at least shows they are trying to be transparent.

The reality is many serious candidates are locked in until 2028. It makes sense to repurpose coaches that are already contracted to NZR or off contract elsewhere in the world (or can easily get a release)

Kirst & Beav had an interesting new pod, from which it seems very clear that Beav really rates Rennie. Some interesting stuff in there discussing who has worked with who before and mainly talking up Joseph including with domehead on his team.
One small comment from Beav on Rennie was interesting, he said something along the lines of that the people he pissed off st NZRU while he was the chiefs coach gave all moved on… not sure what that is about.
For what it is worth, Kirst seemed to think Joseph has been shoulder tapped.
Edit: they did discuss Shag or Foster taking on a caretaker role. It would be interesting to see whether any candidate could get one of them with them for 18 months as the board may really appreciate such experience.

@kidcalder see im not sure that works, if whoever is in the role that Brown would be in, is successful, why then do they get pushed aside?
Timing is a big part of these things, now is wrong for TB, but might be perfect for someone else to take and succeed

There's at least 6 or so? But how many have expressed interest...
I do wonder if the emergency time frame is why it has to be a NZer, or if they still only want 'local' talent to apply on principle.

JJ and Cotter are both forwards coaches.
Rennie is a backs coach.I'd like all three involved somehow.
Kendrick Lynn helps run the very impressive Pumas attack and is based in Queenstown working remotely. He might be in the frame.

I'd say JJ has been shoulder tapped, not to be offered the job, but to make sure he knows they are looking at him very seriously so that he applies, and I'd say they shoulder tapped a few others in the same way. They will already have firm favourites but will want as many names in the hat as possible. I have been so impressed with Kirk so far, God it's good to have someone in charge that knows what they are doing again.

He would be a great candidate, not that well known here but plenty of overseas experience, and he would be a poach from the South sea island of Tokoroa.

If they are successful and want to carry on address it then but fix what's in front of us first

@kidcalder point is, they cant hire people now with an eye on someone else in 2 years, they need to be fully committed to whoever they appoint now, with a view to retaining them for as long as required.
Dont expect many would apply if they knew that they were only keeping someone else's seat warm?
