@kidcalder point is, they cant hire people now with an eye on someone else in 2 years, they need to be fully committed to whoever they appoint now, with a view to retaining them for as long as required.

Dont expect many would apply if they knew that they were only keeping someone else's seat warm?

All they can say is there will be a performance based review at the end of their two year contract. Make no promises, tell no lies

Which should have been (if it wasn't) for razor or is that how they got out of paying him out full term?

No offence George, but you were absolutely sure Tony Brown would join Joseph.

@Frank think we all were . Turned it down same as Schmidt. Running out of options.
Steve Lancaster spoke this afternoon and mentioned Super coaches Joseph and Cotter , that if it worked out that they have other systems in place .

Would love to see Joseph and Cotter combined. That's a lot of old school!!!!
But they'd still need a backs coach.

Shame if Rennie unavailable I saw him as the steady influence with great experience.

If he could work with either Cotter or Josepj, it would make for a very very good team.

Personally, I think they already have their person and this call for applications is a bad idea, it stinks of Robinson dress-up process when the decision is made.

However, if they really are opening it up and Joseph isn't the person who has been tapped on the shoulder, it really speaks to how toxic they think the environment had become. They would have had no idea that they'll be able to replace what we had with any real quality, which essentially means they think that anything would be better.

As I posted a while ago what if coaches turn down the chance ATM,due to what they see as bad timing etc.
Since then Brown,Schmidt,McMillan maybe Rennie and Cotter could also opt out.
That leaves a default Joseph option what if he opts out.
Left with assistant coaches Hanson,Ryan or Who ?.
A few posters jumped on my post and bagged it maybe they didnt stop and think about what coaches maybe walking into.
It may hurt the coaching portfolio not booster it in the short time, After the WC perfect time for a coach to take over.

If JJ opts out NZR will have no option but to expand the recruitment parameters , which would include non kiwi’s unless they opt for changing the HC experience criteria.

So far those who have actually declined interest include Brown and Schmidt who are under contract elsewhere. Then there is McMilliian who i don't even think is an option with zero test experience

Sure but I said if the others turn it down which there is rumours Rennie and Cotter might.
In a alternative universe which could materialise,It would be very interesting what the outcome maybe.

I don't recall anyone bagging it, just posting alternative theories. Bloody kids and their rush to offence these days.

You'd have to be pretty naive to think we'd have had multiple high quality applicants midway through a rwc cycle, let alone the 1st choice 'team' with several 'qualified' candidates currently contracted elsewhere.

There's a need for serious bridge building over the next two years. NZR should be in regular contact with the coaches of interest

Been contrasting this NZ coach selection process with what's going on in the NFL.
10 head coaches got moved, that is nearly a third of the league.
So that's 10 positions up for grabs; plus they'll need new teams of assistants; so 20 more primo coaching spots, plus all the rest.
    F'n chaos.
Because of the nationality thing, the NZR field is limited in comparison; but probably wider than any other national rugby team, with the same restriction.
