At least one decorated coach, who fits the criteria, says he has not heard directly from NZ Rugby. He was miffed.
“What’s wrong with just picking up the phone?’’ he asked.

Anyone get the irony of a decorated coach asking with what's wrong with picking up the phone? Is he unable too himself? Or do these things only work one way.

    Precious much?

Yep seems to be from someone who considers himself above actually having to apply.

My guess is Robbie or Mitch...

So we have Liam Napier, Gregor Paul and Marc Hinton all believing Rennie to be a better choice, yet, the Liam Napier article says he hasn't yet formally applied.
Get on it Kirk!! (and Dave)

Or maybe Gatland who has said he has never actually applied for a rugby coaching job?

Well if hasn't applied he doesn't want the job. Last thing we need is someone halfhearted just because a couple of journos like him.

Or, maybe NZR have tightened thier ship after seeing the Razor story leaked, keeping things tight to avoid leaks?

A stretch, but who knows, seems to be pretty quiet, did any article confirm JJ has applied?

@Dan54 He may need to be assured it's a genuine search and not a method of legitimising a decision already made.

    NZR has form.

    @KiwiMurph
Are you mixing up RWC 19 and RWC 23? Are you thinking of the 2023 match vs Boks in London 2 weeks before the tournament?

Think we lost badly to the Wobblies just before RWC2019. May be wrong.

We lost badly in Perth to the Wallabies that year - I believe Scott Barrett got red carded in that game. The next weekend we smashed the Wallabies at Eden Park (this was the game where they changed the plan at wing and had Reece and Bridge on the wings).

There was a warm up game prior to the World Cup but it was a bit of a non event vs Tonga (Josh Ioane's only test I believe).

We looked poor leading up to RWC2019. We only smashed the wobs because we were embarrassed by them the week before.

The fact we beat SA and then played our best rugby against Ireland in the qtr final had me thinking we were back on track.

Then shat the bed in that terrible semi final. Wuite literally never in the game

Foster was pretty much running the show at that stage, wasn't he? I think Hansen said as much. The writing was on the wall at that stage! I can't believe some posters are mentioning his return. Nothing against him, he is probably a good coach in the right circumstances, but ABs need a fresh approach, an innovative coaching team. Foster is not that kind of coach.

We've just had that fresh, innovative coaching team that everyone seemed to want so much - and one not even tainted or dulled by old thinking from Test experience. It really didn't work out well.

Need a coaching set-up which actually works as a team and gets the best out of the players. An old hand (whoever that may be) who can steady the tiller when needed could be a key part of that.

    Holy overreaction batman.

Just because he hasnt formally applied yet (very particular wording by Napier) doeant mean he's not interested

Rennie has a current job at the moment and is no doubt busy.

The process was only confirmed a few days ago.

He may well be formally applying this weekend

no we didn't. We may have wanted that but we didn't get that.

If the tiller is a Barrett we need a fresh new tiller.

Yeah, I assume it’s like applying for any job. Need to get the CV in order and answer the criteria on the job form. Then get the missus to proof read it.

Takes time, not just a case of throwing them an email saying “yeah I’m keen”

So examples? All I say whenever I wanted job, and saw them I applied, never once waited for the company to ring me. But then again I just an old bugger and never felt I was that entitled. I will say any coach who wants AB gig must know it's up for grabs, and he can also message/email/ring NZR to ask can't he?

Yep seems to be from someone who considers himself above actually having to apply.

I mean, they would normally have their agents taking calls or making calls on their behalf around potential roles.

I am sure the agency that represents a coach would apply on their behalf.

I am also sure that NZR would have made overtures to coaches who would be in their shortlist letting them know they want them in the process.

I guess a coach who has had no initial encouragement realises he is not a coach that is top of mind for NZR for AB coach.

yep well I read one report where coach was upset he only got an email. I actually think these are just beat ups from media, or as I say we got some precious coaches.
