All Blacks - New Coach Selection

Really surprised anyone thinks we need anymore made up roles in the ABs . We just need a coach with right attributes, no f***en culture mentors, coaching mentors etc. I really think most of problems we keep alluding to is caused by too many voices!
Personally want less , not more!@Dan54 I hear ya. But why not utilise some of the available IP. He can teach the new captain how to captain, for example. Lead the players in establishing standards so the coach can focus on game planning. Could actually result in fewer voices instead of having a leadership group with 7 included.

@Chris-B. Yeah, right? What on earth makes people moan these players don't get meaningful minutes? Wales have won a grand slam!
What does that have to do with anything?
Did he get blacklisted?
I've just applied some critical thought - and presented some pretty compelling evidence - rarity though that is in this day and age!!!
Wait, are you trying to turn my post against us? You mean he did play meaningful minutes and wasn't blacklisted? Critical thought typically takes in all factors was my assumption, not just ones that suit an opinion.
Critical thought on the Fern?
I've heard it all now.

Phantom cognition. Some people believe it's set off at night by sensitive teenagers.

Sounds like the sort of thing a Head Coach should be doing. Not sure adding what is effectively another layer of management would help
-
Hell I am happy we are not getting the constant stream of info leaks we have been getting the past couple of years. That will be so much better for the coaches, staff and franchises caught up in the changes. It isn't as simple as just naming the coach. Looks to be being done in a professional manner.

I agree with you in principle Victor, but this is the best player to ever play the game.
Not a jobs for the boys appointment.
To be fair to McCaw he actually stepped away post career to knock out a few chislers, go gliding and run through forests during the night like a lunatic (lunatic for the kids not the running
)I think he actually realises we have lost sight of what it means to be an Allblack, what it takes to be an Allblack and what it takes to win consistently at the top top level. I dont see players in there who really go into dark places to get the job done. The last was Cane coming back from a broken neck.
The Wellington collapse would never happen with McCaws boys, even in the dark days of 2009 when the Boks were touching us up, we weren't easy beats.
I do come accross as a dinosaur at times on here but I stand by the contention that the team lacks "men". Where are your Franks brothers, your Andrew Hores, your Brad Thorns etc?
The rise of social media in the mid 2010's coincided with us being the best team in the world, and we started to sniff our own farts. Chicago Bulls matches, loads of commercial responsibilities, cameras in the post match huddles, behind the scenes content in hotels etc.
Our beasts got humanised.
And the generation that followed McCaws men have been completely blinded by the off field stuff.
Im looking at you Ardie. We have de facto leadership groups of players that clearly cant lead, with unearned Mana.
We have won fuck all in recent memory and have been towelled up far too often to make it even worse.
Razor getting the chop was step 1.
Under performing players regardless of past glories need to be dropped and form players need to be rewarded.
It has to be a meritocracy. The social media needs to be reduced and more head down, arse up toil needs to be done.
People say "but thats just the nature of the game now, you have to do it".
That may be so, but being number 1 will bring in the sponsorship dollars as much as being number 4 or 5 and knocking out instagram reels every day.
People want to be associated with winners. Forget the Tik Tok, start winning rugby matches.

McCaw was in camp before the Wellington test last year.
-
im going to say it, maybe some of these guys should take some initiative and go get mentored in their own time, we do it in business, unpaid mentors are super common and in exec circles paying a coach out of your own pocket to help you with things also very common, not everything needs to be laid out for these guys and part of me say if theyre not with it enough to do something for themselves then theyre not the type of leaders we want

@Bones If you're blacklisted ,you don't get to play.
If you get to play - how can you be blacklisted?
Or does someone have some nonsensical text that applies to this blacklisting?
Is it only on Thursdays?

You are getting far too caught up on the word "blacklisted". I used it in the sense that he was denied opportunities, which he clearly was, it's insane how little gametime he got given how good he has looked every time he's stepped on the field. And the "random person on the internet" was a poster who clearly has accurate sources given how much they have been right about, so not completely random and TBH quite believable given everything else that has come out about the group of clowns "coaching" the ABs the past couple of years.

@No-Quarter You said blacklisted, so I took you at your word.
But, he also got selected in every squad last year, so they clearly weren't blacklisting him to the extent of dropping him.
It was very clear they had picked Beauden and Jordan as their preferred starting 10 and 15, Ruben's initial opportunity was to push DMac off the bench.
I don't really see how he achieves that, since he's played a handful of games at 10 in Super rugby in the past few years - and DMac is simply more experienced and better at both positions.
Ruben got to play in four games last year, which seems about right to me given they were mainly picking their best available team in most games.
Not as sexy as a conspiracy.

Well he got 10 mins in the Perth Bledisloe - a game where Beauden wasnt available through injury
He then came on late second half on the wing in that disastrous second half in Wellington vs Boks
It was extremely odd that he barely featured for the ABs following his performance in France test 3

@KiwiMurph yeah, if we're trying to blood new players and bridge the gap between super and international then he should have got 10-15min in the majority of games in the preferred position and even started a couple...asking why someone that get 10 min here...and another 10 min there but in a different position...and a couple more a few months later isn't impressing just seems silly
I think it shows how desperate we've become not confident enough to give youth a good go

Yep, there was AMPLE opportunity to give him a lot more game time. With Jordan struggling a bit at the back, there were stacks of matches they could have either played Love at 15 and Jordan at 14, or Love at 14 helping Jordan defensively at 15. They were playing Reece at 14 FFS! Absolute insanity.

I’ve said this before: players outside the top team need meaningful minutes alongside the best side.
A few scattered minutes, being played out of position, or facing weaker opposition in a second-string lineup does nothing for their development and tells us very little about how good they actually are.
The last two years have been completely wasted in this regard.

I'm sure Ardie and BB among others didn't appreciate getting flogged to death week after week either. Razor had his top team and did his best to run them into the ground. Contrast SA who were not afraid to insert young players into tough situations

All interesting stuff. But adding further management layers isn't going to solve anything.
Appointing teams of Social Media Monitors & Boot Colour Inspectors to go along with the Captain Mentoring and Head Coach Liaison Unit isn't the answer either
