From my perspective, she shouldn't have gone in so aggressively, should've had a LOT more feet and head movement and should've been looking for any chance she got to take Nunes down. Nunes SHOULD have played right into her strengths, unlike Holly, because while she has power, she's not a clean puncher, she has horrible takedown defence and she has horrendous stamina. Yet Ronda ran in like an idiot, stood still and her only attempts at a take down were when she was already half unconscious.

This all comes down to her GARBAGE coaching team, especially Edmond. Dude tells her she's a good boxer and she believes it, even after getting knocked the fuck out by Holly, so she tries to stand and trade with strikers. Worst coach in MMA.

Edit: For reference, here's one of the walls at Edmond's gym:

Rousey did not look like she wanted to be there - totally agree about total lack of movement. She just seemed to wait to be tagged - I don't know a great deal about the coaching side and if she actually has any striking talent to work with, but she looked dire.

Not to be morbid but do you think she is back on suicide watch? Can't imagine she is in a good head space. Reckon her mum was dropping some wisdom afterwards. Unless Rousey thinks her alternate career opportunities will flounder unless she goes out a winner in UFC??

Her movies are on hold due to concerns about her acting. Without her reputation in UFC she doesn't have anything to market.

That loss ended her career outside of UFC, she needs new coaches and to make a comeback in the ring.

Problem is she seems to have a glass jaw, fight was over after one punch. So without the ability to avoid being hit I can't see much of a future.

@Unco Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. Better coaching would have had her avoiding a strike battle and instead forcing it to the ground. It just happened so quick! Wasn't entirely sure she had a chance.

Not so sure about that. She seemed pretty fired up, but got rocked early and never looked in it.

100% She had a career based on being the baddest chick on the planet. That reputation papered over her terrible acting. She's going nowhere based solely on acting skill.

UFC 209 ... They had the card in the wrong order.

Hunt vs Overeem was a good fight - technical vs power. And a brutal knockout to finish - maybe not spectacular as others but when Hunt went down he was stone cold 100% out. Bloody fight after Hunt split his leg open early doors.

Calvillo vs Cooper - easy for Calvillo, once Cooper down, then it was a no contest

Kelly vs Evans - have you ever seen a guy look least likely to be an MMA fighter - that is Dan Kelly? He looks like a miner who got lost on the way to the whore house, but he's one tough bastard. Good on him.

Teymur vs Vanatta - fight of the night, easily. they really went at it, although neither had real knockout power, otherwise this could have been over early doors. Felt for Vanatta, as the score didn't really reflect how well he did in the fight. 3 x 30-27 unanimous makes it seem like he got owned, but he 100% didn't.

Headliner Woodley vs Wonderboy was a bit of a non event. Both fighters were really really cagey and unwilling to engage. Was more of a chess match than a fight. Woodley had him on the ropes at the end and I think this saved him. I had the fight 27-28 to Wonderboy, arguably 27-27 on the last round being a 10-8. Having said that though, he didn't deserve to be named champion on the basis of that fight, and Woodley didn't deserve to lose it. either. So I think the right outcome.

              Good summary.

Elkins v Bektic was Fight of the Night for me.

                UFC Fight Night 106

Borrachinha is a beast. Will be interesting to see his development in the UFC.

                Great finish from Prazeres.

Yaha v Soto was a war. Great comeback from Soto.

Great patience and strength from Lee to beat Trinaldo.

                Oliveira too strong for Means.

                Superb finish from Barboza. BOOOOOOOOM

Good old fashioned battle between Rua and Villante, with Rua finishing crisply and decisively.

Gastelum finishes Belfort on the back of a super fast jab. Tremendous.

I don't follow MMA at all but this guy does his S&C training at the gym my son works at. He was showing me a video the other day where Jimi wanted to do some work on a heavy bag and the only guy in the gym they could rope in to hold it was an ex Harlequins front rower (can't remember which one). He was really struggling to hold the bag steady . The power in the kicks looked like they would kill you if they hit you.

Have also seen him doing this thing to strengthen his neck against taking head shots where he is basically using one of the weight machines with a cloth tied to it and gripped in his teeth

Situations like this are why I dislike seeing female refs in the UFC. In this instance Barboza was already starting to disengage, however the ref was correct to go flying in there to protect the downed fighter.
Can the female refs throw their weight around as well as this guy or Big John/Herb? Its a physical job and tokenism puts the fighters at risk.
Earlier in this card there was an accidental headbutt and the female ref took ~10secs to seperate the fighters.. they barely noticed her trying to pull them apart

So many good fights on that card. One of the better fight nights for a while

@Duluth there are female refs in the UFC? Thats PC gone complete and utterly mad. Maybe in the womans division at a cinch ...

But yes, refs should be be strong guys who would be able to withstand the force of a misdirected punch.

This is the first time I've seen this female ref. There is another one that works on a lot of the vegas cards

Heres the incident I'm talking about - the accidental headbutt (shitty video quality)

Check out how long it takes to break them up. If the guy was dazed he could have taken some damage that could have affected the result

Don't know if you'd find many that could take anything more than a glancing blow.

I know little to nothing about MMA itself. It just doesn't interest me as a sport but I am getting quite interested in hearing about some of the training they do. My son was showing me a video last night of some S&C training he did yesterday with that Jimi Manuwa that I linked above. He was standing about 2 metres out from a wall with his back to it and hiffing a 15kg medicine ball behind him that was bouncing back and being caught about 4 metres out. That is some power! Certainly not a stray hit I'd like to take.

BTW if anyone is looking for a flutter this weekend, the inside word is that Jimi has upped all his numbers quite a bit since his last fight. Just needs to do a good weight drop for weigh in now.

Not sure about that. Manuwa is rightly the favourite but there is not much value there

If the fight stays on the feet Manuwa is the better striker by a long way.

Anderson has been unimpressive but he has a style that could take advantage of Manuwa's take down defence. It doesn't matter what numbers he's pushing in the gym if his can't sort that out. Anderson could win in a dull humping match

Then there is the question of age: Manuwa 37 vs Anderson 27 and Manuwa has been put to sleep in 2 of his last 4 fights

I still pick Manuwa to win but those odds I've seen aren't attractive enough given the risk

Oh and hopefully one day we'll see Corey Anderson vs Pat Cummins to really confuse cricket fans

A shitty end to Pickett's career, it looked like he comfortably won the first two rounds then got caught by a kick in the third. Just one win in his last seven fights

Gunnar look great against Jouban. So many good match ups coming in the WW division.

Manuwa got the expected early knock out against Corey 'bitch tits' Anderson. Corey had a decent chance if he got the fight to ground, but he was waaay too eager for the take down and was shooting from distance.
On the feet it was just a matter of time. It was a clean knock out shot that Rumble Johnson would be proud of.

I had to laugh when he claimed that knocking out Anderson should get him a title shot. There's a gap between the top of LHW (Cormier, Johnson, Gustafsson, Jones) and the rest. The top guys have a lot of sorting out to do before Manuwa deserves a look in.
Maybe he should fight the loser of Cormier/Johnson, the loser of Teixeira/Gustafsson or if he gets lucky a return fight for Jones (I suspect Jones will get a title shot immediately)

Nothing formally confirmed for the Auckland Fight Night but these are the rumoured fights so far:

                                  Division
                                  Derrick Lewis Mark Hunt Heavyweight
                                  Derek Brunson Dan Kelly Middleweight
                                  Joseph Benavidez Ben Nguyen Flyweight
                                  John Moraga Ashkan Mokhtarian Flyweight
                                  Dan Hooker Ross Pearson Lightweight
                                  Damien Brown Vinc Pichel Lightweight

Thats a hard fight for Hunt. Lewis would be one of the scariest fighters in the UFC

Dan Kelly shouldn't be a test for Brunson but that guy finds a way to stay in fights

Looking forward to seeing how Hooker goes against a veteran

                                          Watching the Prelims

What a fight between Chase Sherman and Rashad Coulter

Heavyweight heart and heavy hitting. Cracking.
