I don't mind these interactions, adds a bit of colour to the game.
My only couple of issues with Itoje was that a) he celebrated too early and now looks like a fool and b) he was playing for the star international team against a local franchise, I wouldn't like to see an AB do that in a mid-week game for example but in a big test I can see how the emotions would get the best of you.

Possibly, but a ref would be advised to tell the players he would do that prior to the game, otherwise it would be a bit too interventionist for my liking. If WR took a stand and issued a directive it would be different.
I'm not a fan of the behaviour, but it's not up to referees to impose their preferences on the players.

In extreme cases at school level I have seen this done. I was running touch in a game where one hooker would be screaming in the face of the throwing hooker every throw trying to put him off. I suggested that he stop doing it and when he didn't I pointed it out to the ref and left it in his hands. He watched it once and warned him then penalised him next time.

@Crucial That's actually why I brought it up. I'm not commenting on the celebrating - I'm commenting on the yelling during the line out. I wondered if I'd be Ok with that at schoolboy level, and I'm sure I wouldn't be.
@Damo Good call. I guess if it were seen to be a problem, then a directive could be issued.

On my way to work I have calmed down a bit on the DMac thing.
I assume that the ABs see him as a 10 option only and he will get a chance to stake that claim next year

Not quite sure how you get to that conclusion. He moved there after an injury and the whole gameplan had to be adjusted on the spot. The Chiefs backs operate on the 2 first receivers (like the Canes tried tonight as well). When Cruden went off DMac had to play a conservative distributor role.
I've never said he is an AB 10 but will have the chance to put himself in that crowded frame next season. I have watched him play at NPC level as a 10 and he controls a game nicely with time on the ball and good decisions. Let's see if he can step it up a grade.

But what are you making this call based on?
When I have seen him play 10 consistently he is very Cruden like. Takes the ball to the line, identifies gaps and space, has a better kicking game than Cruden.
Cruden is AB quality. DMac needs to show he can do all of this at Super Level now as despite you and I thinking he has great quality at 15 the AB selectors obviously feel differently for test rugby. I think they have even stated that they see him as a potential 10.
It will be a hard ask given that we have BB, Sopoaga and Mounga already proven BUT if you look slightly longer term versatility is gold when it comes to the RWC. Being able to carry 2 specialist 10s, a DMac AND a JB could be valuable. -

But what are you making this call based on?
