JJ Abrams back to write and direct Episode IX after they turfed the other guy. Not sure how I feel about that.
Least there will be stability, little bit concerning how they have chewed through a few directors in the last 12 months.
I like the hard nose approach of not fucking around, remember they took the movie off of the Rogue One guy too and re did the final act.
But hopefully they are getting better at picking directors. Oh, they fired that Josh Trank Fantastic Four guy too, and canned the Boba Fett movie.
That’s four directors basically screwed over.
I don't think they took Rogue One away from Gareth Edwards - he did the reshoots on that one.

A new reports indicates that Tony Gilroy's payday for working on Rogue One reshoots included fixing the ended and taking a bigger role in post-production.
They paid this guy $5 million to come in and do the reshoots and re-write the third act. Which is the bit of the movie I liked, too.
Gareth Edwards has mentioned in a number of interviews working on the re-shoots and the ending ... hmmm, I wonder if they did it together?

Yeah, they were nicer to him in the press. But at the end of the day they paid top dollar for someone to come in and re-write his ending and reshot the entire third act. At best you can call it a demotion/trouble shooting, but essentially he had the end/edit of his movie taken off him.
I think they learned from that to be more hands on with the directors (for better or worse)

I half agree with this. I think a lot depends on how Snoke is developed ( he has awesome potential ) but the rest of the bad guys aren't a patch on DV and Moff Tarkin.
I do quite like Rey, Po and Finn have a shitload of convincing to do for mine though.

Kylo Renn could have been seriously cool but the farked it up big time. My eldest bought the toy and couldn't wait to see the film. Then of course he took off his mask, had a tantie and got his arse kicked by a girl who'd barely seen a light saber.
Can you imagine if Darth Vader took off his mask in ANH to reveal the 1977 version of Adam Driver? Christ that would have sucked.

In TFA they had to introduce these new characters to grow in front of us as well. Even from that trailer it looks like Kylo is growing into something good. Snoke will get fleshed out, Rey will get to show a personality etc
Finn has the most room to develop. He was simply a bewildered stormtrooper in TFA -
I think we are seeing Anakin done right, so instead of comparing him to Darth Vader who was 20 years into being a bad guy, compare him to the fall of Anakin. Or whiny Luke, he's bang on for a Star Wars film.
And we don't know what the story is with Rey yet, so it's too soon to judge her powers in that fight.

Finn has the most room to develop. He was simply a bewildered stormtrooper in TFALuke was a super ambitious kid who grew up on a shit hole in the middle of nowhere. His development in the films is perfect. What would have been utterly ridiculous is if he'd chopped up Vader in ANH without even having Obi as a mentor.
Renn is shit. They could have at least cast a guy who looks like the spawn of Han. He looks farking comical without his mask. What's he going to grow into? He already killed his dad. Will he grow into killing his mum?
I hope they do flesh out these characters but as it stands they are pale imitations of the old ones. Watching the trailer only drives that home.
Wish they'd stolen all the Rogue One characters they killed off.

Finn has the most room to develop. He was simply a bewildered stormtrooper in TFAThis is a very good point. I don't recall anyone whining that they can't go to toshi station to pick up some power converters quite like Like does.

Yeah I reckon Luke has had a crisis of faith so to speak after training Ren and losing him to the dark side. He has dwelt on his emotions for too long and how he let down his sister and best friend. Those thoughts lead to anger, hate and jealously....
