Social issues were always part of Star Trek, the original show tackled racism notably.
Star Wars was designed to teach basic right/wrong to 12 year olds (according to Lucas) and be a fun Flash Gordon like serial.
It sucks the fun out when far-left politics gets inserted.
Star Trek came out when those were important issues. Seems incredible now that the first interracial kiss was actually a big deal. What I liked, in addition to the multiracial crew, is the fact they also had a Russian. That must have caused a stir back then.
As much as these idiots might argue otherwise, retroactively making Lando pansexual isn't anywhere same thing. It's just a pathetic attempt to inject his own SJW politics into a franchise that was never about this crap. As you said it's a glorified B-film. Buck Rogers on steroids.

Nichelle Nicholls being casted as Uhura, ie someone in an authority position, was big too
Get this discussion off this thread. Star Trek is shit.
Jeez, there's more triggering on here than the Trump thread

Not sure about that. It's not like I'm demanding they include a transexual interspecies alien so the minority have something to relate to.
I just called out Star Wars for being shit. Cos it is.

Tbh I enjoyed the first two new ST films than the new SW ones. Wouldn't never pay to see a ST film though.

I have simple tastes as far as SW is concerned.
I'm just going to go along and watch the film at face value. Star wars takes me back to being a kid again for a couple of hours and that's fine with meYes, a more simple time when film makers didn't have an urge to ram their identity politics down people's throats. Pity those times are long past.

Oh dear. Auto correct and not paying attention really didn't help my cause just there...

I don't think George Lucas was thinking that deeply in 1977. But film makers have always been liberal types, didn't McCarthy see them as all being communists?

Creative types generally are more liberal. I get that people don't want movies they otherwise like having a slant that they see as political and don't agree with but FFS movies are fantasy anyway. See how many sci-fi/dystopian future type movies are about worlds ruined by wars/greed over resources or facist-like power grabs. It's always been there, just hasn't always had the silly labels attached to it.
Anyway, I have tickets to Solo after work on Thursday and am looking forward to it. Not expecting anything other than a reasonably decent bit of fun set in the SW universe. In fact if it was pitched at 10-12 year olds it would probably be great.

How on earth is that the same as SJW virtue signalling and identity politics? It isn't but you'll defend this SJW bullshit because it's your side.
If you're in any doubt how balls deep these guys are in all this nonsense, check out this comment from Rian Johnson: "We need directors who aren't white dudes."

Not sure everyone will enjoy it, I went in with little or no expectations with Solo. But overall was happy to say it exceeded them very easily. Never at any point felt like it dragged on, wasn’t super long ( probably bang on 2 hours)
If your one of those types here who have a problem with female characters having large roles you might have cause to complain.. again
Probably didn’t enjoy it as much as Rogue One but still more then worthy to join the Star Wars universe.
