I've just been catching up on the latest episodes of Game of Thrones and Mad Men.

Game of Thrones has been good, I still get annoyed with the jumping around ... but realise that's what they have to do to tell the story. Weddings hah?

Mad Men: Apparently viewership is down for Mad Men and some critics are turning against it. I've never been a regular Mad Men viewer in that I thought most of the first 3 seasons were average but have found it brilliant since then. These new episodes have been great. I laughed harder in the second episode throughout than during most comedy's.
I'm not sure if I believe that Don would have taken that deal. It's way too stringent and seems as just a way for the firm to fire him and relieve him of his shares. If I was Don I would have said f*#k you, keep paying me to sit on my arse or buy me out and end the non compete.
There's a lot of talk around the interweb about how the GoT series is diverging from the books. Most are just plot devices due to the compressed nature but it appears they may have spoilered the books
In the credits originally supplied to broadcasters they introduced a new character well ahead of the same point in the books...

See this

But where things get really interesting is in the (now-changed) HBO synopsis of the episode.

“A White Walker claims the baby and rides to a city of ice,” the synopsis read. “The child is presented at an altar, where the Night’s King greets the infant and lays a finger on its cheek. The baby’s eyes turn White Walker blue.”

The synopsis has been changed to read “where a White Walker greets the infant and lays a finger on its cheek.” The mention of the Night’s King is gone, but not before the text was spread on reddit and across the internet.

The significance of the Night’s King is pretty huge. Long the subject of various Game of Thrones theories, the Night’s King is a legend told to Bran Stark by Old Nan at Winterfell. Here’s the summary of the legendary figure from A Wiki of Ice and Fire:

According to legend, the Night’s King lived during the Age of Heroes, not long after the Wall was complete. He was a fearless warrior, who was named the thirteenth Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. Later he fell in love with a woman “with skin as white as the moon and eyes like blue stars”, he chased her and loved her though “her skin was cold as ice”, and when he gave his seed to her he gave his soul as well.[1] (Her description matches that of the Others.)

He brought her back to the Nightfort and after the unholy union, he declared himself king and her his queen, and ruled the Nightfort as his own castle for thirteen years. During the dark years of his reign, horrific atrocities were committed, of which tales are still told in the North. It was not until his own brother, the King in the North, and Joramun, the King-Beyond-the-Wall, joined forces that the Night’s King was brought down and the Night’s Watch freed. After his fall, when it was discovered that he had been sacrificing to the Others (possibly in similar way to Craster), all records of him were destroyed and his very name was forbidden. It is likely this led the lords of the North to forbid the Night’s Watch to construct walls at their keeps, ensuring the keeps would always be accessible from the south.

What was once just a legend appears to be true, and now we have a direct link between the White Walkers and the Starks of Winterfell. The ancestor of Bran Stark and Jon Snow was a Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, transformed into a White Walker, and was eventually driven into the north via an alliance between wildlings, crows, and the King in the North.

Now the Night’s King is back, and he’s been transforming human babies into Walkers, just like he was transformed by his queen long ago. He’s even seen wearing black, similar to the Night’s Watch. It’s pretty fascinating, and something that certainly hasn’t been revealed in the books. It’s also probably canon, since it’s unlikely they’d change (or add) something so major to the show that isn’t true in the books (regardless of all the smaller plot tinkering going on.)
The books kinda jump like that though....just in more detail.

Chapter 1 - Ned

Chapter 2 - Tyrion

Chapter 3 - Bran

Chapter 4 - Ned

you get the picture....

I'm still deciding if I liked the White Walker part we saw....guess it depends where they go with it (assume they have Martin's White Walker movie in mind here 😉 )

As I like Game of Thrones for the drama and politics, and not the fantasy, I don't particularly like it. No dragons, white walkers or Bran the animal would be my preference ... I'm shit out of luck though.

As an avid fan of the books I don't really care about white walkers and shit like that. Im much more interested in the wars further south. What was cool about this episode was that it contained stuff that wasnt in the books and that makes it far more interesting.

Orphan Black 2

Anyone else started? I found Ep 1 to be a bit of a mess trying to set up the plotlines but it all makes sense again in a great Ep2.

Good to see the cop (Art) back in a bigger way. He adds a touch of real world to the weird happenings.

That's good to know, I was a bit underwhelmed. But then again, I think I needed to rewatch the last ep of s1 again as I was a bit lost ... memory isn't what it used to be.

Gave up on Revolution quite a while back but have kept going on Arrow. Big game changer last week and the last few eps of the season should be a cracker.

Best thing is that we may finally get rid of the island flashbacks. They annoy the shit out of me (mainly from the bad wigs)

I'm interested to see where they go with Roy's character. I assume that StarLabs will come up with an antidote to the Mirakuru but whether it has full effect on Roy will remain to be seen.

I am so over Thea, whiny little bearch!

But yeah certainly looks like setting up for a good last few eps...Assume they all react differently to the Mirakuru, given Roy is simply an angry person that cant control it, Slade has had years to sort his out, yet his army all seemed pretty controlled too.

There is also that nerdy dude who is still I a Coma, who must surely come out with powers...Not sure why Oliver is (was) with Sarah when he coulda had Laurel or Felicity!

Revolution has gone down a bit IMO, although the lack of continuity (has a good ep then 2 week break) is probably part of the problem, as I was really getting into it!

The" nerdy dude in a coma" is the Flash. They used Arrow to set up the backstory for the new Flash series. Arrow producers have said they have looked at introducing Flash in Arrow but have decided it won't be done until the standalone series.

ah ok, haven't looked at any of the forums/comic stuff, aside from looking at Slade...although 2 different sites didn't really tie in a great deal, so I am not sure if the series will take that route.

Stink they wont use the Flash though, Ollie could use some help right now 😉 (not to mention why did they bother introducing him?)

To set up the offshoot series. This is the DC franchise doing what Marvel have done.
Will be interesting to see if they run two separate (TV and Movie) environments with intertwining elements.
The movie side has Batman and Superman and about to add Wonder Woman. There is a JLA movie in the works though and in theory should include both Arrow and Flash.

I'm still watching Revolution but like you TR I think the scheduling has stuffed it completely. I thought this season was going great up until a few episodes ago.

I have about 10 unwatched episodes of Arrow. I put it in my light entertainment box and Agents of Shield took that spot on my viewing roster in the past couple of months. I assume I'll get back into it but it wasn't holding my interest at the time ... even with the Maori villain.

I'm still really enjoying The Americans.

I haven't started S2 of The Americans yet, it falls into my late night viewing (which is where Arrow and Revolution sit presently) as something Mrs TR doesn't watch, but am looking forward to it after the S1 finale!

The Americans is in my morning and dinner rotation - where I like to concentrate ... Arrow and Revolution are in my late night 'easy watching' period.

I think The Americans S2 is a step above S1 story and character wise.
