Finished watching the first season of the Gomorrah TV series. Pretty good stuff. Well shot, lots of action, plenty of plot twists, and appropriately grim.

8/10

A bit up and down, there's a lot of stupid stuff around Carrie but the 24 like stuff has been great. MUch better than seasons 2 & 3.

Which episode did you just watch?
-

I am an unashamed fanboi. Show was brilliant. Happy with conclusion. Tidy little package. -

he is tied up with a pilot for a new show at the moment though called 'The Bastard Executioner'.
-

Finally I have got around to watching Boardwalk Empire. First episode switched between flashbacks to Nucky as a kid and seeing "what made the man", Nucky in Cuba anticipating the end of the Bolstead Act (Prohobition) and Roosevelts election, Chalky in a prison gang, Luciano joining a "new family" and Nucky's ex Margaret in a New York stockbrokers firm and the subsequent fall out from the depression.

Kept me interested enough to watch the next episodes
-

you should definitely watch the whole Season 4. It's great and pretty much stands on its own as a story. 2 and 3 have their good bits, but a lot of silly stuff (teenage drama??) inbetween.

Though it would have been a bit better to watch from Ep 1 onwards instead of from where you are and now from 1 ;)
-

I got the feeling at the end of series 1 it was going to go the way of lost and probably bore the hell out of me with crap about Brodie and Carrie trying to make their relationship work. I meant to watch season 4 from the start because I heard Brodie had taken a dirt nap and Carrie was going to Pakistan. Might watch it from the start if the rest is as good as that episode, not interested in 2 and 3 though.

Does anyone watch that show with the navy ship full of survivors of a plague and is it worth a look ?
-

I think that the best way to think about Season 4 is a cross between some of the character stuff of season 1 and 24 (the show). If that sounds like you then you should love it. No need to watch 2 and 3 - in fact in my head I can't even differentiate between 2 & 3.
-
SOA finale...very ending, not surprising if you have paid attention, even if a bit cowardly, but execution? Did they give to a standard 3 rural school with no internet connection to complete?

All in all, probably happier than I was with Dexter finale, which I rate as highly (my top ten ever, both pushing top five) even if I woulda done it differently, which is probably why Sutter has made a few dollars from TV series vs my $0.... -

I never watched 24, I did start watching the americans though and Keri Russell is enough of a milf to keep me watching for a while.
-

Oh yea, that's right, meant to ask- Jax goes in like and who are you, and then she gives him a blanket and walks off Nd he's ok with that?

Although I'm not sure how The Americans jumped into the conversation ;), I think it's a great show, Keri Russell milf-ness aside. The second series is awesome.

I've been happy with a bunch of finales from shows in or near my top 10. I liked the Lost final season, I really liked The Shield's final season and finale, I even thought Deadwood tied up enough to be an ending (I watched it late so knew that it was ending which may have influenced my thoughts), I liked the final season of The West Wing (in large part due to Nero too), I liked the final Sopranos.

We must have slightly different tastes - SOA doesn't get near my top 10 and I've only watched two episodes of Dexter.

By the way, they're releasing The Wire in HD (16:9), which might help you find it more watchable as it might not look so dated without the black bars on the side. :)

Regarding the execution - I think what Sutter lacked this year was some boundaries, I think the final season could have been much better if they had a decent editor and the episodes came in around 40-50 minutes. It would have got rid of lots of the drag.
