I think Williams, Naholo, and Romano will head offshore. Also, do we think Hames will be re-signed after his injury woes? Can't see it happening for some reason. Same happened with Graham, though he wasn't an All Black.

@Yeetyaah I think someone on here has some contact with Romano and says he's not keen on playing overseas and planning on moving into coaching. Could easily be after this season since he's 33 now. Now that Whitelock is skipping next year's Super rugby, I'd like to see Romano sign on for one more season. I don't think he should be out of contention for the ABs RWC squad this time around - I still have question marks over big Patty, including after last Saturday.

Kane Hames' concussion is looking like a serious worry for him ever playing again.

It would be pretty ironic if after all his code jumping and going to the highest bidder at the peak of his powers that now after getting married and having kids he wants to settle down but the NZRU is basically like... we reckon you are done at test level we can give you the Crockett/Romano deal but that's about it.

He better start to deliver pretty fast then, because there's a few equally promising players on the rise.

I don't think he will, because he's the wrong sort of player to develop late. He's an athlete, fair enough, but the late bloomers at six have been ones who were physically hard and took time to harden up (like Kaino) or came late to the position (like Messam).

Frizzel reminds me of Blowers, who was spent by the age Frizzel is now. Or Jamie Joseph, similarly gone by 25.

@Chester-Draws I may have been one of his biggest detractors last year 😉 but even I think he’s looked good this year - so I’m unsure why the Highlanders selectors replaced him with the “safe”* Lucky Luke.

          • Which is I assume is redefined as misses tackles and gives away stupid penalties now.

Duh me. I missed out that Frizzell was tough enough already.

Depending on how you look at it Frizell is pretty new to the position.

He only started playing rugby when he was 17 and only arrived in NZ (from Tonga) in 2015.

Started for the Mako in 2016.

No he wasn't. He wasn't fast (compared to young Messam he was slow). He wasn't fabulous in the air, winning strings of lineouts and kickoffs. He wasn't nimble. When you think of him, what special athletic powers did he have others striving for his position don't?

He was a hard man who hit hard and made few mistakes. He was fit. He had a bit of explosive power, but it didn't translate into many line breaks, for instance.

No-one doubts his worth. But he was no more naturally athletic than any of his competitors.

                          @Chester-Draws

Which Kaino are we talking about? 2004 Kaino was an athlete - he added the hard later and got his place from 2008, becoming god-like from about 2011.

Young Kaino was a serious athlete.

I believe it was 2004 on debut ABs v Barbarians at Twickenham that Kaino went in and around Mat Rogers to score?

If thats the case I would have been a superlative blindside.

Young Kaino was a serious athlete.

I believe it was 2004 on debut ABs v Barbarians at Twickenham that Kaino went in and around Mat Rogers to score?

Hang on am I reading this right ? In order to become a great blindside you have to lose your athleticism?

If thats the case I would have been a superlative blindside.

I think you read it wrong.

Well no I’m not. Apparently you can’t be tough and an athlete at the same time.

@Chester-Draws Kaino was an athlete type player.

@Chester-Draws yeah but nah, incorrect. You're missing a fair chunk of his career as others have politely pointed out.

@Chris-B It was more an issue of confusing Crusaders Prop Tim Perry with the former Bath, England and Lions fullback than with the Canadian actor who played Chandler Bing :
