@No-Quarter you have to wrap your arms, you can’t lead with your shoulder. Have to stand in front and let them hit you, or let them go past and tackle from side.

push the ball carrier into the turf and fall on them.

I think the confusion stems from setting yourself low initially, then he falls , it’s hard to mark adjustments , especially if you are a big bloke

Exactly, you just cannot win with the way the rules are being implemented at the moment.

Yesterday, the problem was that Lavanini was stood up too high and, therefore, his shoulder was always at risk of crashing into the chin of Farrell (a much shorter man). So, the answer to that problem is to get the body height low and make sure contact is low (i.e. below the shoulders).

Today, we've seen Nepo and Ofa do what they should - set themselves low to ensure contact below the shoulders. However, as soon as they initiate their movement to tackle, the attacking player goes lower, basically removing any possibility to make contact below the shoulders - i.e. completely removing the target. So, the answer to that problem is to keep the body upright. But then, we just end up in Lavanini territory again!

So, as a defending player, you're buggered either way.

World Rugby really has to re-think this. There's got to be a bit of an onus on the attacking player to also protect his head. You simply cannot tell me that clever players and coaches will look at the past couple of days and make a tactical move to carry low and lead with the head.

If attacking coaches and players themselves are not going to be worried about their noggins, then why should defending teams be...?

Said it earlier, so not wanting to sound like a stuck record, but I’ll be surprised if players, coaches , are not looking to exploit this by instructing players to fall at the last moment before contact

Yeah, you're expecting to hit a waist and have less than half a second to change?

I'll say this again, these guys are falling. Let them but the ground

Jordie amazing 80 and 80 in 4 days. ALB and Ardie other top 3.

          Jordie for canes 10

At full speed that decision cannot be made, it's ridiculous to even suggest it

Comments before I read the thread.

Flush the dunny on that first half.

Aaron FFS you're fucking Aaron Smith. What the fuck was that?

Ref made some really random calls to keep Namibs close, the van Jaarsveld flop over the ruck then penalise Whitelock, followed immediately by the forward pass in midfield as an example.

Jordie's first two kicks worried me but he was goid from the tee after that.

Our ruck work was incredibly untidy in the first forty.

Why did we take so long to work out that Laulala's 10 minutes was up?

POTDs for me were Ardie, Frizell and Jordie.

Oh yeah. How good was van Jaarsveld? What a pain in the arse was he? Not always legal but fun to watch.

First 30 mins was pretty rubbish, the boys looked like they'd barely met and Namibia were making line breaks at will. Second half some bloody great tries scored, especially TJ's. Glad Jordie found his kicking boots, those first two were not vintage.

I understand the YC call on Laulala, anything near the neck they are going to get pissy about, but it's pretty rough when the dude was low and falling to start. There should be some onus on the attacking player to protect himself as well as the defender tackling with good technique.

Clear MOM for ALB today. Clean-outs, offloads, bursts, tackles - everything. Thought Ta'avao and Cane were the next best. Jordie did very well after a nervous start. Aaron Smith and Frizzell a bit sloppy at times. The card calls on our props are tough. Saw similar hits by Namibia (e.g. on Ben Smith), but not pulled up. Don't know what players or refs can do to sort the mess with this.

Ummmm, I think he's messed his midfield players up

I'll add a bit of classic NH stuff from Guardian

Lol the 3 points they lead by was really a key point of the game

Another point on the YCs which has already been alluded to is the inconsistency. There is regular contact with the head on front rowers going low into the tackle around the ruck. It seems quite random which ones get called up.

Anyone else need a quiet day at work tomorrow? I may have made too sure I stayed hydrated watching that .

On the game itself. Credit to Namibia for playing to the ref and disrupting the breakdown. They played with a lot of heart and can be proud of that effort.

Also have to give us credit for riding it out and then stepping it up a gear to blow them away from around 30 minutes onwards. I'm very happy with the performance overall.

Jordie was good at 10 and is pretty clearly the 3rd best 10 in NZ right now. That won't last, Ioane (and I'm sure other young 10s) will get better but he's way too green to be playing 10 for the ABs at the RWC. Good decision from the selectors.

ALB is just amazing. What a player he has become, I'd have him over any other centre in the world right now. Everything he does is all class.

Ardie can play 6, 7 or 8 and dominate. He is also some player now.

Also thought Pat T was very strong again. He's a weapon off the bench for us now, finally playing to his potential on a consistent basis.

Shag interview said it was just the wrong attitude in first half. ALB said the same thing post match. Funny how “Attitude” can have such a big impact on how a team performs. Shows how important the upstairs is, possibly why Ioane is slightly out of sorts.

We like to think they are robots, but players have feelings as well. Desire does count for something when the margins are fine

Some of these posts should be in the 'Favourite Comedians' thread.

Both YC were a combination of dumb play and swinging arms.

If the ball carriers hadn't been dropping they both would have seen red.

You may not like it. You may not agree with it.

BUT THIS IS HOW THIS WC IS BEING REFEREED.

As I wrote yesterday, evolve or die.

Namibia were game and played some high tempo, inventive rugby fair play. They opened up the ABs defence quite easily at times, just didn't have the skill to finish their chances.

And the NZ covering defence was superb.

                                          That's your 9, 11, 13, 14 sorted as far as I'm concerned.

Mo' to 10, SBW to 12, BB to 15 with BFA to the wing or bench

I'd go with Ardie at 8, Cane at 7, Read at 6
